Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Special Education Teaching Assistant
Verify your Teacher category credentials first
TN status for teaching roles requires proof of a bachelor's degree in education or a related field. Gather your transcripts and any state-issued teaching credentials before contacting employers, since missing documents stall offers.
Target districts with established USMCA hiring
Public school districts that have sponsored TN professionals before move faster and make fewer documentation errors. Search for districts in states with high Canadian or Mexican educator populations, such as Texas, California, and Michigan.
Distinguish your role from unlisted occupations
Not every support role qualifies under the TN Teacher category. Your offer letter must describe duties tied to direct instruction or specialized educational support, not purely administrative or paraprofessional tasks, to satisfy USCIS classification requirements.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify Special Education Teaching Assistant positions where employers are actively offering TN visa sponsorship, saving time you'd otherwise spend filtering roles that don't support international candidates.
Ask HR how they handle USCIS petition filing
Some districts process TN petitions through their HR department, others outsource to immigration counsel. Confirm this before signing an offer so you know who is responsible for preparing your I-129 and how long their internal process takes.
Prepare a compliant support letter covering all TN criteria
Your employer's support letter must specify your job title, duties, educational qualifications, and intended length of stay. Gaps in any of these fields are a common reason USCIS issues a Request for Evidence on TN petitions for education roles.

Find Special Education Teaching Assistant JobsSpecial Education Teaching Assistant TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Special Education Teaching Assistant role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, if the position falls under the TN Teacher category and your duties involve direct instructional or specialized educational support for students with disabilities. The role must require at least a bachelor's degree in education or a closely related field. Purely paraprofessional or aide-level positions without that degree requirement may not qualify, so the offer letter language matters significantly.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Special Education Teaching Assistants?
TN sponsorship is faster and more predictable for this role. There is no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and Mexicans have a separate limited allocation rather than competing in the H-1B pool. Canadian citizens can even obtain TN status at a port of entry on the same day, while H-1B requires months of advance petition filing and approval before the start date.
Can Mexican citizens get TN sponsorship for Special Education Teaching Assistant positions?
Yes, but the process differs from the Canadian path. Mexican TN applicants must obtain a visa stamp at a U.S. consulate rather than seeking admission directly at the border. The Teacher category is still available, and employers who sponsor Canadians through TN typically have the same process available for Mexican nationals, though consular appointment wait times vary by location.
How do I find Special Education Teaching Assistant jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most job postings don't advertise TN sponsorship explicitly, which makes filtering difficult. Migrate Mate is built specifically to surface positions where employers are open to TN visa candidates, so you can focus your search on districts and organizations that already understand the sponsorship process rather than spending time on roles that won't move forward with international candidates.
What documents does my employer need to sponsor my TN visa for this role?
Your employer must provide a detailed support letter covering your job title, a description of duties tied to the Teacher category, your required educational credentials, and the duration of employment. You'll also need your original degree transcripts and diploma. USCIS reviews whether the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree in education or a related discipline, so vague job descriptions in the letter are a common filing error to avoid.
