Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Technology Lead
Align your credentials to TN categories
Technology Lead roles are approved under Computer Systems Analyst or Engineer designations. Map your degree field and job duties to one of these categories before applying, since mismatched credentials are the most common TN denial trigger.
Target employers with recent visa filings
Many tech employers sponsor work visas like H-1B but have never processed a TN visa. Focus on employers with recent visa filings, as they understand work visa sponsorship requirements and may be open to sponsoring TN candidates for technology leadership roles. For Canadian applicants, these employers are more likely to prepare the required support letter and accept presentation at a U.S. port of entry. For Mexican applicants, they're better positioned to support the consulate application process.
Use Migrate Mate to filter TN-ready openings
Searching broadly for Technology Lead roles wastes time on employers who won't sponsor. Migrate Mate surfaces jobs specifically matched to TN visa eligibility, so your outreach focuses on companies already prepared to file.
Prepare a duties letter before your offer
Draft a detailed job duties letter with your prospective employer before the offer is finalized. CBP officers adjudicate TN petitions at the port of entry, and a vague duties letter is the fastest path to a secondary inspection or denial.
Clarify the filing route with each employer early
Canadians can self-petition at the border; Mexican nationals require consular processing with an approved petition. Confirm which route your employer expects before negotiating a start date, since Mexican TN timelines are longer.
Negotiate employer-paid filing costs upfront
TN petitions carry no government filing fee for Canadian border applicants, but Mexican nationals need a DS-160 and consular fee. Clarify who covers these costs during the offer stage, not after you've signed an offer letter.

Find Technology Lead JobsTechnology Lead TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technology Lead role qualify for TN visa status?
Technology Lead roles typically qualify under the Computer Systems Analyst or Engineer TN categories, depending on your specific duties and degree. The key is that your job description must emphasize systems architecture, technical direction, or engineering work rather than general management. A role focused primarily on people management with minimal technical duties may not satisfy CBP's specialty occupation standard for TN classification.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Technology Lead roles?
For Canadian professionals, TN sponsorship is faster and simpler than H-1B. There is no lottery, no cap, and Canadians can receive approval at the border the same day. H-1B requires employer sponsorship months in advance, a lottery selection, and USCIS processing. Mexican nationals face consular processing under TN but still avoid the H-1B lottery. For Technology Lead roles with clear technical duties, TN is almost always the faster path if you qualify.
Where can I find Technology Lead jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most job postings don't specify TN visa sponsorship, which makes filtering extremely inefficient. Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN-eligible professionals, surfacing Technology Lead openings matched to your visa category. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying to employers who have no TN filing experience and won't know how to move forward once you disclose your status.
Can I switch employers while on a TN visa in a Technology Lead role?
Yes, but your TN status is tied to your current employer and you cannot start with a new employer until a new TN petition is approved. Canadians can file at the border with a new employer's offer letter and duties documentation. Mexican nationals need to go through consular processing again. Plan your transition timeline carefully to avoid any gap in authorized work status.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for my TN sponsorship?
Your employer must provide a signed job offer letter that details your title, specific technical duties, the TN category being claimed, your salary, and the employment period. For Technology Lead roles, the duties section is critical. CBP officers look for explicit descriptions of systems analysis, engineering oversight, or technical architecture work. A generic leadership description without technical specifics routinely triggers requests for additional evidence or denials at the port of entry.
