Target employers with recent visa filings
Multinational corporations with Canadian or Mexican operations already understand cross-border employment frameworks. Prioritize companies in finance, technology, and manufacturing with recent visa filings that have experience sponsoring work visas, as they'll be familiar with visa sponsorship processes and documentation requirements rather than learning them from scratch. For Canadian applicants, these employers are more likely to efficiently prepare the required support letter for port-of-entry presentation. For Mexican applicants, they're better positioned to navigate consulate application procedures.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for TN sponsorship roles
Search Migrate Mate to surface VP positions at employers who have demonstrated TN sponsorship willingness. This saves time you'd otherwise spend vetting companies that have never filed a TN petition for executive-level hires.
Negotiate the offer letter before TN documentation starts
The offer letter is a core TN filing document. Before HR drafts it, confirm it states your specific professional category, required degree field, and that the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher, not just that one is preferred.
Clarify managerial versus professional duties with the employer
Pure management functions don't independently qualify for TN status. Ensure your job description emphasizes the technical or professional work you'll perform, such as financial analysis or engineering oversight, alongside your leadership responsibilities.
Prepare for expedited border entry if you're Canadian
Canadian citizens can obtain TN status at a U.S. port of entry with the right documentation package. Bring your offer letter, proof of citizenship, credentials, and a support letter from the employer to avoid delays at the primary inspection booth.
Vice President TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Vice President title automatically qualify for TN visa status?
Not automatically. The TN visa is tied to specific professional occupations listed under USMCA, not to seniority levels. A VP role qualifies only if the underlying duties map to a recognized TN category, such as engineer, economist, accountant, or management consultant, and the position requires a relevant bachelor's degree or higher.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Vice President roles?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadians, so you can pursue a VP role without competing for a limited number of slots each fiscal year. H-1B visa requires employer sponsorship through a lottery process and can take months to approve. TN status for Canadians can be granted at a port of entry the same day, making it far faster for time-sensitive executive hires.
Can Mexican citizens get TN status for a Vice President position?
Yes, but Mexican citizens must apply through consular processing at a U.S. embassy or consulate in Mexico rather than at the border. The TN allocation for Mexican nationals is capped annually under USMCA, so timing your application and working with an employer experienced in consular filings matters for executive-level roles.
How can I find Vice President jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking U.S. roles with TN sponsorship. You can filter for VP-level positions at employers who are open to TN visa candidates, which is faster than applying broadly and then discovering a company has no experience sponsoring cross-border executive hires.
What documents does an employer need to support a TN petition for a VP hire?
The employer provides a detailed offer letter stating the professional category, the candidate's degree requirement, a description of specific duties, and the employment start date. For VP roles, the letter should explicitly separate technical or professional responsibilities from general management tasks, since TN status requires demonstrable professional occupation duties rather than purely supervisory functions.
