Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Public Relations Specialist
Align your degree to the job description
TN approval depends on a direct match between your credentials and the offered role. A degree in communications, public relations, or journalism satisfies the requirement. A general business degree without a PR specialization can trigger a denial at the border.
Target employers experienced with visa sponsorship
Corporations in healthcare, tech, and financial services routinely sponsor TN visas for communications staff. Look for employers with recent visa filings in your field—this demonstrates they have experience with work visa sponsorship. When you identify companies with this sponsorship background, you can approach their HR teams directly with your TN qualifications and a completed job offer.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Sorting through employer sponsorship history manually is slow. Migrate Mate surfaces companies actively hiring Public Relations Specialists under TN and similar work visas, so you can focus your outreach on employers already open to sponsorship.
Frame your offer letter around TN requirements
Your employer's offer letter must describe the role in terms USCIS and CBP recognize: specialty occupation duties, professional-level communications responsibilities, and the specific business need. Generic offer letters citing vague marketing tasks are a common rejection trigger.
Prepare for Canadian port of entry filing
Canadian citizens apply for TN status directly at a land border or preclearance airport, not a consulate. Bring your offer letter, credential documents, and a completed DS-160 equivalent. CBP officers adjudicate on the spot, so documentation gaps create immediate problems.
Track your TN status expiry for renewal timing
TN status is granted in three-year increments with no cap on renewals. File your employer's renewal petition well before your current status expires. A lapse in status can affect your ability to travel internationally and return to your U.S. role.

Find Public Relations Specialist JobsPublic Relations Specialist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Public Relations Specialist qualify for TN visa status?
Yes. Public Relations Manager appears on the USMCA TN occupation list, and CBP broadly interprets this to include specialist-level PR roles when the offered duties align with professional communications work. Your offer letter must describe responsibilities that require a bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a closely related field. A mismatch between your credentials and the described duties is the most common reason for a TN denial in this occupation.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Public Relations Specialist roles?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and no employer petition waiting period. H-1B requires an employer to file a petition, pay substantial USCIS fees, and survive a randomized lottery with no guaranteed selection. For Canadian PR professionals, TN is far more predictable: you can be approved at the border the same day you present your documents. Mexican citizens face a consular process but still avoid the H-1B lottery entirely.
What documents does my employer need to provide for TN sponsorship?
Your employer must issue a detailed offer letter on company letterhead stating your job title, a description of professional-level PR duties, your salary, the duration of employment, and confirmation that you hold a qualifying degree. CBP officers at the border or consular officers reviewing your application assess this letter carefully. Vague descriptions referencing general marketing or social media management without specifying professional communications responsibilities create unnecessary risk.
How do I find employers who will sponsor TN visas for PR roles?
Many employers are unfamiliar with TN sponsorship even when they regularly hire for PR positions. Migrate Mate is built specifically to connect Canadian and Mexican professionals with employers who have active TN visa sponsorship history, so you can skip the cold outreach to companies that will simply say they don't sponsor. Filtering by occupation and visa type dramatically shortens your job search timeline.
Can I switch PR employers while on TN status?
Yes, but your TN status is tied to your current employer. Before starting with a new company, your new employer must obtain fresh TN authorization for you, either at a port of entry or through a USCIS change of employer filing. You cannot begin work for the new employer using your existing TN. Canadian citizens can handle this at the border with a new offer letter, while Mexican citizens typically need a new consular appointment.
