Entry Level Transportation Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level transportation engineer job?
Employers hiring entry level transportation engineers typically look for a bachelor's degree in civil, transportation, or a related engineering discipline, along with internship experience, design software proficiency such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D, and familiarity with traffic modeling tools. A strong senior capstone project or documented internship contributions can give a candidate a meaningful edge when competing for junior roles.
Which companies hire entry level transportation engineers?
Companies hiring entry level transportation engineers right now include Walmart, Amazon, and Ryder System, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring covers engineering consultancies, public transit agencies, municipal governments, and infrastructure contractors, all of which routinely bring on junior engineers to support project design and analysis work.
Are there remote entry level transportation engineer jobs?
Yes, though on-site and hybrid roles dominate at this level. About 18% of entry level transportation engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with fully remote positions most common in traffic data analysis, travel demand modeling, and GIS-focused roles where fieldwork is minimal.
Are these new grad transportation engineer jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior transportation engineer roles. A posting is new-grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internships or co-op work in place of full-time history, or explicitly invites candidates to submit a portfolio or academic project as part of the application.
Which industries hire the most entry level transportation engineers?
Entry Level transportation engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Retail, and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors drive junior hiring because ongoing infrastructure investment, urban growth, and federal funding programs create steady demand for project-ready engineering graduates who can step into design, modeling, or field support roles.
