Mid Level Transportation Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level transportation engineer job?
Position your existing experience around ownership and impact: highlight projects you led from design through delivery, decisions you made independently, and any coordination with clients, agencies, or contractors. Tailor your resume to match the technical tools and project types each employer lists, and demonstrate familiarity with local or regional standards such as AASHTO guidelines, traffic modeling software, or relevant permitting processes.
Which companies hire mid level transportation engineers?
Companies hiring mid level transportation engineers right now include Amazon, AECOM, and Stantec, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a mix of civil and transportation engineering consulting firms, public-sector agencies, and infrastructure contractors actively staffing project teams.
Are there remote mid level transportation engineer jobs?
Yes, though the majority of roles still require on-site or field presence given the nature of infrastructure work. About 14% of mid level transportation engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, typically covering planning, traffic analysis, or design-heavy roles where fieldwork is not the primary responsibility.
How do I move up to a mid level transportation engineer role?
Growth from entry level to mid level comes from taking on progressively broader ownership: moving from task execution to managing a full project phase, developing proficiency in design software and analysis tools, and building a record of delivering work with less day-to-day supervision. Engineers who seek out client-facing responsibilities, document measurable outcomes, and pursue licensure such as the PE exam tend to make this transition more quickly.
Which industries hire the most mid level transportation engineers?
Mid Level transportation engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Government & Public Sector, and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors drive hiring at the mid level because they manage large, multi-phase infrastructure programs that require experienced engineers who can own project segments without constant senior oversight.
