Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in physical education or a related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, four years of experience in athletic training or a related field, one of which was in a supervisory capacity, and certification with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA).
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree is preferred and will substitute for one year of the required experience. Experience in a collegiate setting is preferred.
Job Description Summary
The University of South Alabama’s Athletic Training department is seeking to hire an Athletic Trainer Supervisor. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions
These are the job duties required of the position.
- Supervises athletic trainers, graduate interns in sports medicine, and student assistants to include assigning duties and checking work.
- Assists and enhances the development of sports medicine program for the University to include injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling for student athletes.
- Administers a variety of advanced athletic training room rehabilitation.
- Provides coaches with information on weather policy and injury management updates as needed.
- Provides medical coverage and medical supervision for all organized and specified individual or team voluntary sport tryouts as approved by the athletic director.
- Maintains daily records and documentation of injuries and treatments of athletes.
- Works in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs.
- Supervises and operates delegated athletic training room facilities to ensure OSHA regulations and university standards.
- Oversees student assistant working schedules and timesheet management.
- Responsible for medical supplies inventory.
- Provides athletic training services for the University’s athletic department including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary.
- Assists with the coordination and scheduling of pre-participation physical examinations and medical referrals for student athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.
- Responsible for training and supervision of graduate assistant athletic trainers and student assistants, undergraduate clinical education student interns in sports medicine.
- Coordinates insurance documentation and claims management for the sports medicine program.
- Evaluates and recommends new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the sports medical program.
- Provides the Sr. Associate Athletic Director with report updates and provides class illness, sickness and appointment documentation as needed.
- Assists with championship events and medical coverage.
- Regular and prompt attendance.
- Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
- Related duties as required.
