Which companies sponsor visas for medical doctors in Alaska?
The largest sponsors of medical doctor visas in Alaska include Providence Alaska Medical Center, Alaska Native Medical Center, Bartlett Regional Hospital, and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium. The Alaska Department of Health and federally qualified health centers serving rural communities are also active sponsors, particularly for primary care and internal medicine physicians filling critical shortage positions.
Which visa types are most common for medical doctor roles in Alaska?
The H-1B is the most common visa for medical doctors in Alaska, as physician roles consistently qualify as specialty occupations requiring at minimum a medical degree. The J-1 Conrad 30 waiver program is also widely used, allowing foreign medical graduates who completed J-1 exchange visitor training to waive the two-year home residency requirement by committing to three years of practice in a federally designated health shortage area, which many Alaska communities qualify as.
Which cities in Alaska have the most medical doctor sponsorship jobs?
Anchorage accounts for the majority of sponsored medical doctor positions in Alaska, anchored by Providence Alaska Medical Center and the Alaska Native Medical Center. Juneau and Fairbanks also generate consistent demand through regional hospitals. Beyond these urban centers, rural communities including Bethel, Nome, and Kodiak actively recruit sponsored physicians, often through tribal health organizations and federally supported rural health clinics.
How to find medical doctor visa sponsorship jobs in Alaska?
Migrate Mate is a dedicated job board for international medical professionals seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S., including medical doctor roles in Alaska. You can filter specifically by state and specialty to surface positions at Alaska health systems and tribal health organizations that are actively sponsoring physicians. This makes it easier to identify employers with a demonstrated history of sponsoring international doctors rather than sorting through general listings.
Are there state-specific considerations for medical doctors seeking visa sponsorship in Alaska?
Alaska's geographic isolation and persistent physician shortage mean many communities qualify as Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) or Medically Underserved Areas (MUAs), which strengthens eligibility for J-1 Conrad 30 waivers and National Interest Waiver petitions for doctors willing to serve those populations. Employers in these areas are generally more experienced with the sponsorship process, and state health workforce programs actively coordinate with federal agencies to support physician recruitment.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored medical doctor jobs in Alaska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
