Which companies sponsor visas for medical doctors in Georgia?
Emory Healthcare, Wellstar Health System, Piedmont Healthcare, Grady Health System, and Augusta University Medical Center are among the most active sponsors for medical doctors in Georgia. Academic medical centers and large hospital networks file the most H-1B and J-1 petitions, as they have established immigration infrastructure and ongoing physician shortages across primary care, internal medicine, and specialty roles.
Which visa types are most common for medical doctor roles in Georgia?
The J-1 visa is the most common pathway for foreign medical graduates completing residency and fellowship training in Georgia, issued through an ECFMG-accredited sponsoring program. The H-1B is standard for attending physician positions at hospitals and health systems after training. Conrad 30 waivers allow J-1 physicians to remain in Georgia by committing to practice in a medically underserved area, waiving the two-year home residency requirement.
Which cities in Georgia have the most medical doctor sponsorship jobs?
Atlanta concentrates the largest share of physician sponsorship jobs, anchored by Emory, Wellstar, Piedmont, and Grady. Augusta is a secondary hub driven by Augusta University Medical Center and its affiliated VA facilities. Savannah, Macon, and Columbus also post sponsored physician roles, particularly in primary care and general surgery, where rural and suburban shortages create consistent international recruitment demand.
How to find medical doctor visa sponsorship jobs in Georgia?
Migrate Mate aggregates visa sponsorship physician jobs in Georgia, letting you filter specifically for medical doctor roles at hospitals and health systems that have confirmed sponsorship history. Rather than sorting through general job boards, Migrate Mate surfaces Georgia-based positions where employers are actively open to H-1B or J-1 candidates, saving time during a high-stakes job search.
Are there state-specific considerations for medical doctors seeking visa sponsorship in Georgia?
Georgia participates in the Conrad 30 waiver program, which allocates up to 30 J-1 waiver slots per year for physicians who agree to practice in federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas across the state. Georgia's rural counties have persistent primary care shortages, making waiver-eligible positions more accessible than in urban markets. Physicians must also pass USMLE Steps 1, 2, and 3 and obtain a Georgia medical license before beginning independent practice.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored medical doctor jobs in Georgia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
