Which companies sponsor visas for internships in Arizona?
Arizona's largest internship sponsors tend to be concentrated in semiconductors, tech, and healthcare. Intel's Chandler and Ocotillo campuses regularly hire sponsored interns, as do Microchip Technology, Honeywell's Phoenix operations, and Banner Health. These are established employers with in-house immigration support, which matters for intern sponsorship. Smaller startups in the Phoenix metro occasionally sponsor as well, but structured programs at large employers offer more reliable pathways.
Which visa types are most common for internship roles in Arizona?
Most international interns in Arizona work under F-1 Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT), both tied to enrollment at a U.S. university. CPT requires the internship to be part of your academic program and must be authorized by your school before you start. OPT allows work before or after graduation. J-1 intern and trainee visas are another option, typically facilitated through a designated sponsor organization.
Which cities in Arizona have the most internship sponsorship jobs?
The Phoenix metro, including Chandler, Tempe, and Scottsdale, concentrates the highest number of sponsored internships in Arizona, driven by the semiconductor corridor and corporate headquarters clustered there. Tucson is a secondary hub, particularly for aerospace, defense, and university-affiliated research internships connected to the University of Arizona. Flagstaff sees limited sponsored internship activity outside of NAU-linked academic placements.
How to find internship visa sponsorship jobs in Arizona?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters internship roles in Arizona by visa sponsorship status, so you're not sifting through listings that won't work for your situation. Search by role type and state to surface employers actively hiring sponsored interns in Phoenix, Tucson, and the broader metro. Migrate Mate also provides context on which employers have a track record of sponsoring international candidates.
Are there state-specific factors that affect internship visa sponsorship in Arizona?
Arizona's concentration of semiconductor and aerospace employers means many sponsored internships require security clearance eligibility, which international students on F-1 or J-1 visas typically cannot obtain. This narrows the field at defense-adjacent employers like Raytheon and General Dynamics. On the other hand, ASU's status as one of the largest universities in the U.S. creates a well-established pipeline between international students and corporate sponsors in the Phoenix area.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored internship jobs in Arizona?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
