Which companies sponsor visas for internships in Texas?
Texas Instruments, Dell Technologies, ExxonMobil, Chevron, Amazon, Samsung Austin Semiconductor, AT&T, and Lockheed Martin are among the Texas-based employers with established internship programs that have supported visa sponsorship. Technology and energy companies tend to account for the largest share of sponsored internship positions in the state, particularly for STEM-focused roles.
Which visa types are most common for internship roles in Texas?
F-1 students doing internships in Texas most commonly use Curricular Practical Training (CPT) during their studies or Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduation, both of which allow work authorization without employer-filed petitions. J-1 intern and trainee visas are another common pathway, typically arranged through a sponsoring exchange organization. H-1B sponsorship for internships is rare and generally limited to post-graduation full-time conversion scenarios.
Which cities in Texas have the most internship sponsorship jobs?
Austin leads for technology internships, with a concentration of employers in software, semiconductors, and consumer electronics. Houston is the primary hub for energy, petrochemical, and engineering internships. Dallas-Fort Worth offers strong volume across finance, telecommunications, defense, and logistics. San Antonio has a growing cybersecurity and military-adjacent tech sector that produces internship opportunities, particularly through programs tied to federal contractors.
How to find internship visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and visa holders searching for sponsorship-friendly roles, including internships in Texas. You can filter by state and role type to surface employers with a documented history of supporting international candidates. Because many Texas internship postings do not explicitly advertise visa sponsorship, using a platform like Migrate Mate that screens for sponsorship eligibility saves significant time during your search.
Are there university pipelines or state-specific factors that affect internship sponsorship in Texas?
Texas has a large international student population across UT Austin, Texas A&M, Rice University, and UT Dallas, creating well-established pipelines between those schools and local employers. Employers in the energy sector often structure internships to comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements even for CPT positions, which can affect role classification. Texas's lack of state income tax is also a factor some employers cite when structuring intern compensation packages.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored internship jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
