Which companies sponsor visas for internships in Indiana?
Indiana's largest internship sponsors tend to be its biggest employers. Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis regularly hires international interns in pharmaceutical research and data science. Cummins, Salesforce, and Rolls-Royce's North American operations also participate in sponsored internship programs. Medical device and agricultural technology firms in the Lafayette and Columbus corridors are additional sources of sponsored internship opportunities.
Which visa types are most common for internship roles in Indiana?
Most international interns in Indiana work under F-1 OPT or CPT, which allows students enrolled at U.S. universities to work without the employer filing a separate petition. For post-graduation internships, F-1 OPT is the primary authorization. Some structured corporate internship programs, particularly at large multinationals, may support J-1 intern or trainee status, which requires a designated sponsor organization to administer the exchange program.
Which cities in Indiana have the most internship sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis concentrates the largest share of sponsored internship roles in Indiana, driven by its life sciences corridor, tech sector, and corporate headquarters. Lafayette benefits from proximity to Purdue University, attracting pharmaceutical and engineering internships. South Bend, home to the University of Notre Dame, has a growing presence in fintech and advanced manufacturing internships. Bloomington also sees demand tied to Indiana University's international student population.
How to find internship visa sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate filters internship listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search Indiana roles without manually screening each posting. International students should also connect with their university's career center, since schools like Purdue and Indiana University maintain employer relationships with companies that regularly hire interns under CPT and OPT. Targeting Indiana-headquartered firms in life sciences and advanced manufacturing tends to yield the most consistent sponsorship activity.
Are there any Indiana-specific factors that affect internship visa sponsorship?
Indiana's strong university pipeline, particularly from Purdue, IU, and Notre Dame, means many large employers already have established processes for hiring international interns under CPT and OPT. The state's concentration in pharmaceutical manufacturing and advanced engineering creates demand for technically skilled interns. Employers subject to prevailing wage requirements under J-1 or H-1B must meet Department of Labor wage standards, so internship compensation is not purely employer-discretionary for sponsored roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored internship jobs in Indiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
