Which companies sponsor visas for internships in Wisconsin?
Epic Systems in Verona and Northwestern Mutual in Milwaukee are among the most active internship sponsors in Wisconsin, alongside GE Healthcare, Rockwell Automation, and American Family Insurance. Large employers in healthcare IT, financial services, and manufacturing tend to have structured international internship programs with dedicated HR processes for CPT and OPT authorization.
Which visa types are most common for internship roles in Wisconsin?
Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT) under the F-1 student visa are the most common work authorization types for interns in Wisconsin. CPT applies to students completing credit-bearing internships tied to their curriculum, while OPT allows work before or after graduation. J-1 visa exchange visitor visas are also used for structured internship programs at larger Wisconsin employers.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most internship sponsorship jobs?
Madison and Milwaukee account for the large majority of sponsored internship openings in Wisconsin. Madison benefits from the University of Wisconsin-Madison pipeline, with employers like Epic Systems and American Family Insurance recruiting heavily from campus. Milwaukee draws interns into financial services, insurance, and manufacturing. Green Bay and Waukesha also have openings, particularly in engineering and advanced manufacturing.
How to find internship visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters internship listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse Wisconsin opportunities without sorting through roles that won't support international candidates. You can filter by location and role type to surface CPT- and OPT-eligible internships at Wisconsin employers across healthcare IT, finance, and manufacturing, which are the state's strongest sectors for international intern hiring.
Are there state-specific considerations for international interns in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin has a strong university pipeline, particularly through UW-Madison and Marquette University, and many employers are familiar with CPT and OPT authorization as a result. International interns working under F-1 status must ensure their internship is tied to their field of study for CPT eligibility. Roles at healthcare IT firms like Epic Systems often require background checks and specific onboarding timelines that can affect start dates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored internship jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
