Which companies sponsor visas for internships in Oklahoma?
Energy companies like ConocoPhillips and Devon Energy, aerospace firms near Tulsa including American Airlines and Spirit AeroSystems, and large health systems like INTEGRIS Health and Ascension St. John have histories of sponsoring international interns. University-affiliated research programs at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University also place sponsored interns through institutional partnerships. Sponsorship availability varies by program cycle and role.
Which visa types are most common for internship roles in Oklahoma?
F-1 students completing internships through Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT) are the most common sponsored interns in Oklahoma. J-1 intern and trainee visas are also widely used, particularly for structured programs with a designated sponsor organization. H-1B sponsorship for internships is rare since the role must qualify as a specialty occupation and clear the annual lottery.
Which cities in Oklahoma have the most internship sponsorship jobs?
Oklahoma City and Tulsa account for the large majority of sponsored internship opportunities in the state. Oklahoma City draws interns in health sciences, government contracting, and financial services. Tulsa is a hub for energy, aerospace, and engineering internships. Norman and Stillwater have smaller but active markets tied directly to University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University research and industry partnerships.
How to find internship visa sponsorship jobs in Oklahoma?
Migrate Mate filters internship listings specifically by visa sponsorship status, so you can browse Oklahoma opportunities without sorting through roles that won't support international candidates. Search by city or industry to surface energy, aerospace, and health sector internships in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Checking regularly matters since sponsored internship postings in Oklahoma fill quickly, especially during fall and spring recruiting cycles.
Are there state-specific considerations for international interns in Oklahoma?
Oklahoma's internship market is heavily tied to its energy and aerospace industries, which means hiring timelines often align with those sectors' project cycles rather than traditional academic calendars. University pipeline programs at OU and OSU give students on F-1 visas structured CPT pathways into local employers. International interns should confirm their program officially qualifies for CPT or is supported by a J-1 sponsor before accepting any offer.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored internship jobs in Oklahoma?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
