Which companies sponsor visas for bookkeepers in California?
Large accounting firms including Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, and EY have California offices that have historically sponsored accounting and bookkeeping roles. Beyond the Big Four, mid-size regional firms, healthcare systems such as Kaiser Permanente, and technology companies with large finance departments also sponsor. Smaller firms occasionally sponsor but far less often, so targeting employers with established immigration infrastructure improves your chances.
Which visa types are most common for bookkeeper roles in California?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for bookkeeper positions, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field. The L-1B is an option if you're transferring within a multinational employer. Some candidates from Australia qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian or Mexican nationals may pursue TN visa status under the USMCA accountant category.
Which cities in California have the most bookkeeper sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles and San Francisco account for the largest share of bookkeeper sponsorship activity in California, driven by their concentration of corporate headquarters, financial services firms, and large healthcare organizations. San Jose and the broader Silicon Valley area also generate demand, particularly from technology companies with complex multi-entity accounting needs. San Diego has a smaller but active market through biotech and defense contractors.
How to find bookkeeper visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify California employers actively hiring bookkeepers who are open to sponsoring international candidates. Rather than sifting through general job boards, Migrate Mate focuses on roles where sponsorship is a stated or known employer practice, saving time for candidates who need confirmed sponsorship to accept an offer.
Are there state-specific considerations for bookkeeper visa sponsorship in California?
California employers must comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements when sponsoring H-1B workers, which are benchmarked to local wage surveys and tend to be higher in the Bay Area than in inland regions. California's large accounting talent pool means competition is significant, so candidates with specialized experience in industries like technology, entertainment, or healthcare often stand out to sponsoring employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored bookkeeper jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
