INTRODUCTION
Viant is looking for a Communications & Social Media Manager to join a high-performing, fast-moving team at a pivotal moment in the company's growth. This role sits at the intersection of advanced social media strategy, event content strategy, and executive communications - and requires someone who can operate at a strategic level while also rolling up their sleeves to produce polished, high-stakes content. Social media has become one of the most important channels for how Viant shows up in the market - not just as a brand, but through the voices of our executives. As our leaders become more visible and our presence at major industry moments grows, the ability to tell our story in real time, with authenticity and impact, has never mattered more. This role sits at the center of that effort. You'll be joining a communications team that embraces social-first storytelling just as much as building a media list. We care as much about how our brand and executives show up on LinkedIn and X as we do about landing a story in the trades - and we're looking for someone who sees both as part of the same craft. You will work closely with our Director of Communications and serve as a key resource for executives, enterprise sales leaders, and cross-functional partners across the organization. If you're looking for a role where your work shows up on the biggest stages and feeds in the advertising industry, this is it.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Social Media Management:
- Lead the strategy and oversee the day-to-day operations of Viant's organic social media channels, combining strategic thinking with hands-on execution to drive reach, engagement, and measurable business impact
- Develop platform-specific content strategies and oversee a social calendar that ensures consistent brand voice across every touchpoint - working closely with the Communications Specialist on scheduling, community management, and real-time engagement, and leveraging AI-powered tools to optimize publishing cadence and content performance
- Proactively bring new ideas for expanding Viant's social presence - including video-first storytelling formats, influencer and creator-style content, and innovative approaches to reaching leading brands and senior marketers where they are
- Champion a video-first mindset across social, identifying opportunities to translate events, announcements, and executive perspectives into compelling short-form content that performs natively on each platform
- Define and track KPIs, develop reporting frameworks enhanced by AI, and deliver actionable performance insights and optimization recommendations to leadership
- Leverage AI-powered tools for content creation, sentiment monitoring, social listening, and workflow automation - continuously identifying new ways to work smarter and scale impact
Event Content & Speaker Preparation:
- Own the end-to-end development of speaker materials for Tentpole, Regional, and Vertical events - including abstracts, talking points, slide narratives, and prep sessions for internal leaders while coordinating with external clients and partners
- Manage a growing roster of company speakers across a broad range of external speaking opportunities, from major industry stages (Cannes, POSSIBLE, CES, Adweek, ANA, etc.) to vertical-specific events
- Serve as the internal standard-bearer for speaker readiness - ensuring that every Viant representative who takes a stage is thoroughly prepared, confidently positioned, and shows up as a credible, polished reflection of the brand
- Partner with Growth Marketing and Sales to establish intake processes that allow for strategic - not reactive - content development
- Ensure every stage moment reflects the Viant brand with precision and consistency
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 8-10 years of experience in communications and social media, preferably in B2B, with meaningful exposure to both social content management and event/speaker content
- A strong social media instinct - you understand what performs, what resonates, and how to build a brand voice that cuts through
- Demonstrated ability to write and edit at a high level across formats - from stage abstracts to LinkedIn posts to executive talking points
- Familiarity with the media and advertising landscape - you understand the landscape, the players, and the conversations worth joining
- Strong editorial judgment and the ability to push back constructively when content doesn't meet the standard
- Experience managing multiple workstreams and stakeholders simultaneously, without losing quality or composure
- A collaborative, low-ego approach - you're as comfortable in a prep session with a C-suite executive as you are drafting a post that needs to go live in the next hour
- Prior experience in a high-growth or publicly traded company a plus

Which companies sponsor visas for communications professionals in California?
Technology companies are among the most active sponsors for communications roles in California. Apple, Google, Meta, Salesforce, and Netflix have all filed Labor Condition Applications for communications-related positions including corporate communications, public relations, and content strategy. Major entertainment studios and media conglomerates based in Los Angeles, such as Disney and NBCUniversal, also have established sponsorship track records for communications professionals.
Which visa types are most common for communications roles in California?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for communications roles in California, provided the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or higher, such as communications, journalism, public relations, or marketing. Australians may pursue the E-3 visa, which follows a similar specialty occupation standard but has no annual lottery. Canadians and Mexicans in qualifying communications roles may be eligible for TN visa status.
Which cities in California have the most communications sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and the broader Bay Area lead for technology-sector communications roles, including corporate communications, developer relations, and content strategy at major tech firms. Los Angeles is the center for entertainment, media, and public relations sponsorship opportunities, with a large concentration of studios, agencies, and streaming companies. San Jose also has meaningful volume given its proximity to Silicon Valley headquarters.
How to find communications visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters communications jobs in California specifically by visa sponsorship history, so you're not sorting through postings from employers who don't sponsor. The platform is built for international candidates and surfaces roles from technology companies, media organizations, and entertainment studios across Los Angeles and the Bay Area. Filtering by state and role category on Migrate Mate is the most direct way to identify active sponsoring employers in California communications.
Are there any California-specific considerations for communications visa sponsorship?
California's prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B program are enforced at state and metropolitan levels, meaning employers in San Francisco and Los Angeles must meet wage thresholds specific to those metro areas, which are generally higher than national averages. California's strong union presence in media and entertainment can also affect how communications roles are classified and whether sponsorship is feasible for a given position type.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored communications jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
