Which companies sponsor visas for controllers in California?
Technology and life sciences companies lead sponsorship activity for controllers in California. Firms like Apple, Google, Meta, Salesforce, Genentech, and Gilead Sciences have filed Labor Condition Applications for controller and senior accounting roles. Large financial institutions and enterprise software companies headquartered in the Bay Area also sponsor regularly, though sponsorship decisions vary by role, headcount, and internal policy at each employer.
Which visa types are most common for controller roles in California?
The H-1B is the most common visa for controllers in California, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Candidates with a CPA, CMA, or advanced degree may strengthen their petition. Controllers from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian or Mexican nationals may qualify under TN visa status in the accountant category.
Which cities in California have the most controller sponsorship jobs?
The San Francisco Bay Area, including San Jose and Silicon Valley, has the highest concentration of controller sponsorship jobs in California, driven by the density of technology and venture-backed companies. Los Angeles is the second-largest market, particularly in entertainment, media, and private equity-backed businesses. San Diego has a strong cluster of biotech and life sciences employers that hire finance leadership, including controllers.
How to find controller visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates searching for visa-sponsored roles. You can filter by state and job title to surface controller positions in California where employers have a demonstrated history of sponsorship. Because controller roles involve senior financial oversight, targeting mid-to-large employers in technology, biotech, and financial services in the Bay Area and Los Angeles tends to yield the most relevant results on Migrate Mate.
Are there state-specific considerations for controllers seeking sponsorship in California?
California's prevailing wage requirements apply through the Department of Labor's LCA process, and given the high cost of living in markets like San Francisco and San Jose, prevailing wages for controller roles here are among the highest in the country. California also has strict employee classification and labor laws that employers must account for when sponsoring workers, which means sponsoring companies typically have established HR and legal infrastructure to support the process.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored controller jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
