Which companies in New Jersey sponsor visas for controller roles?
Large multinationals with New Jersey headquarters are the most active sponsors for controller positions. Companies like Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick, Prudential Financial in Newark, Cognizant in Teaneck, and Merck in Rahway have histories of sponsoring skilled finance professionals. Mid-sized pharmaceutical, technology, and financial services firms across Bergen and Morris counties also sponsor, though less consistently than enterprise-level employers.
Which visa types are most commonly used for controller jobs in New Jersey?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for controller roles in New Jersey, as the position typically requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Controllers with prior U.S. experience at a related entity may qualify for an L-1A intracompany transfer. Candidates with exceptional professional recognition may explore the O-1A, though it is a higher bar to meet.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most controller visa sponsorship jobs?
Newark, Jersey City, and Parsippany-Troy Hills generate the highest concentration of controller sponsorship opportunities, driven by financial services headquarters, large corporate campuses, and accounting firm offices. Princeton and New Brunswick are strong for pharmaceutical and life sciences controller roles. Bergen County suburbs including Teaneck and Woodcliff Lake also produce consistent openings due to the cluster of multinational regional headquarters there.
How to find controller visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search controller roles in New Jersey without sorting through positions that won't support work authorization. The platform surfaces openings from employers with documented sponsorship activity across the Newark, Princeton, and Bergen County corridors. Filtering by role and state on Migrate Mate saves significant time compared to manually verifying sponsorship eligibility employer by employer.
Are there state-specific or role-specific factors that affect controller sponsorship in New Jersey?
New Jersey's high concentration of pharmaceutical, financial services, and technology firms means controller roles here often require CPA licensure or substantial public accounting experience, which strengthens the specialty occupation case for H-1B petitions. The state's proximity to New York City also means some employers file under New York prevailing wage rates for hybrid roles, which can affect Labor Condition Application filings. Rutgers and other New Jersey universities produce accounting graduates who sometimes enter sponsorship pipelines through OPT before transitioning to H-1B.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored controller jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
