Which companies sponsor visas for drivers in California?
Large logistics and freight companies are the most consistent sponsors for driver roles in California. Amazon Logistics, XPO Logistics, J.B. Hunt, and regional trucking carriers have filed for sponsored positions in the state. Agricultural distributors in the Central Valley and port-adjacent warehousing companies near Long Beach and Los Angeles also appear regularly in Department of Labor disclosure data for driver-related sponsorships.
Which visa types are most common for driver roles in California?
The H-2B visa is the most commonly used category for seasonal or temporary driver positions, particularly in agricultural regions like the Central Valley. For longer-term commercial driving roles, some employers pursue H-1B visa sponsorship if the position involves specialized logistics coordination. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying transportation roles. Eligibility depends on the specific job duties and employer.
Which cities in California have the most driver sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles and the surrounding Inland Empire cities, including Riverside and San Bernardino, account for a large share of driver sponsorship activity due to proximity to the Port of Long Beach and major distribution centers. Fresno and Bakersfield see demand from agricultural logistics operations. Sacramento also has activity tied to regional freight and state contract trucking work.
How to find driver visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship eligibility, making it straightforward to search for driver roles in California without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can filter by location and role type to focus on commercial driving and logistics positions across the state's major freight corridors. Migrate Mate's listings are sourced from employers who have indicated sponsorship availability.
Are there state-specific considerations for driver sponsorship jobs in California?
California enforces some of the strictest commercial driver regulations in the country, including its own emissions standards under the California Air Resources Board, which affects the types of vehicles employers operate and hire for. Sponsored drivers must still hold or obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License issued in California. California's prevailing wage requirements, enforced through the Department of Labor for H-2B visa and H-1B positions, apply to sponsored roles and set minimum compensation floors.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored driver jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
