Which companies sponsor visas for drivers in Virginia?
Amazon, UPS, XPO Logistics, and Old Dominion Freight Line are among the larger employers with driver hiring operations in Virginia. Port-adjacent logistics companies in the Hampton Roads area and distribution centers in Northern Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley corridor also sponsor drivers periodically. Sponsorship availability varies by company and role type, so confirming directly with each employer is necessary.
Which visa types are most common for driver roles in Virginia?
H-2B visa is the most commonly used visa for seasonal or temporary commercial driving roles, covering non-agricultural temporary work. H-1B visa is generally not applicable to driving positions because they do not meet the specialty occupation requirement. Candidates with existing work authorization through other visa categories, such as TN visa or H-1B in a separate qualifying role, may be able to take driving positions without additional sponsorship.
Which cities in Virginia have the most driver sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia, particularly the Dulles and Prince William County corridors, has the highest concentration of distribution and delivery driver demand due to its dense logistics infrastructure. Norfolk and Suffolk near the Port of Virginia are active for commercial and port-related trucking. Richmond and Roanoke serve as regional freight hubs along the I-95 and I-81 corridors and regularly have CDL driver openings.
How to find driver visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate lets you filter driver job listings in Virginia specifically by visa sponsorship availability, which removes the guesswork of contacting employers one by one. The platform focuses on roles where employers have indicated willingness to sponsor, covering commercial trucking, delivery, and logistics driver positions across Northern Virginia, Hampton Roads, and the Richmond metro area.
Are there state-specific considerations for driver sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Virginia requires commercial drivers to hold a Virginia-issued CDL, which means international candidates must pass both knowledge and skills tests through the Virginia DMV regardless of licenses held elsewhere. The state's proximity to federal contracting hubs in Northern Virginia also means some driving roles tied to government logistics contracts may have additional background check or clearance requirements that can affect eligibility for foreign nationals.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored driver jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
