Which companies sponsor visas for IT engineers in California?
Large technology employers in California with consistent H-1B sponsorship histories for IT engineering roles include Apple, Google, Meta, Intel, Qualcomm, Cisco, and Salesforce. Beyond the major names, mid-size enterprise software companies and semiconductor firms throughout Silicon Valley and the greater Los Angeles area also file H-1B petitions for IT engineers on a regular basis. DOL disclosure data is publicly available and shows employer-level filing volumes.
Which visa types are most common for IT engineer roles in California?
The H-1B is the most common visa for IT engineers in California because software development, systems engineering, and network engineering roles typically satisfy the specialty occupation requirement. Employers filing Labor Condition Applications must attest to paying the prevailing wage for the specific role and location. Candidates already holding L-1B intracompany transferee status or O-1A visas for extraordinary ability also fill IT engineering positions at California employers.
Which cities in California have the most IT engineer sponsorship jobs?
The San Francisco Bay Area, including San Jose, Santa Clara, and Sunnyvale, generates the highest volume of IT engineer sponsorship activity in California due to the concentration of major tech headquarters and R&D centers. Los Angeles has grown significantly, particularly in the Westside tech corridor around Santa Monica and Culver City. San Diego is a strong secondary market driven by defense technology, telecommunications, and semiconductor employers like Qualcomm.
How to find it engineer visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to roles where employers have demonstrated sponsorship activity, so you can search IT engineer positions in California without sifting through listings that won't support a visa. Because California has a large volume of H-1B filings across many cities and employers, narrowing by location and role type on Migrate Mate helps surface the most relevant opportunities for your background and visa situation.
What should IT engineers know about California-specific sponsorship considerations?
California's high cost of living means the Department of Labor prevailing wage determinations for IT engineering roles in cities like San Jose and San Francisco are among the highest in the country, which affects what employers must pay sponsored workers. California is also home to several UC and CSU campuses that produce large pools of F-1 OPT candidates, meaning some employers in the state are experienced handling OPT-to-H-1B transitions for IT engineering hires.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored it engineer jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
