Which companies sponsor visas for quality assurance engineers in California?
Large technology and biotech employers in California are among the most active H-1B sponsors for quality assurance engineers. Companies like Apple, Google, Meta, Cisco, Broadcom, Qualcomm, and Genentech have consistently filed H-1B petitions for QA roles. Staffing firms and mid-size software companies also sponsor, though their sponsorship frequency varies. Reviewing DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data is the most reliable way to verify a company's sponsorship history.
Which visa types are most common for quality assurance engineer roles in California?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa for quality assurance engineers in California, as QA roles at accredited tech and life sciences companies typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring a relevant bachelor's degree. Candidates from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian or Mexican nationals may be eligible for TN visa status under the USMCA. The L-1B is another option for engineers transferring within a multinational company.
Which cities in California have the most quality assurance engineer sponsorship jobs?
The San Francisco Bay Area, including San Jose, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, and Mountain View, accounts for the largest share of QA engineer sponsorship opportunities in California, given the density of technology and semiconductor companies there. San Diego is a strong secondary market, particularly for QA roles in biotech, medical devices, and defense. Los Angeles also has a growing presence in software and entertainment technology, adding further hiring volume.
How to find quality assurance engineer visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates looking for visa sponsorship roles, and filters quality assurance engineer jobs in California by sponsorship history. Rather than sifting through thousands of general postings, you can focus on employers who have a documented track record of sponsoring QA engineers in the state. Pairing Migrate Mate with DOL LCA disclosure data helps you confirm an employer's sponsorship activity before applying.
Are there state-specific considerations for quality assurance engineers seeking sponsorship in California?
California's prevailing wage requirements under Department of Labor rules apply to all H-1B positions, and wages in the Bay Area and San Diego are among the highest in the country for QA engineers, reflecting regional cost of living. California also has strict worker protection laws that can affect employment terms in sponsored roles. The state's university pipeline from UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego, and Stanford produces strong local competition, so international candidates benefit from targeting employers with demonstrated international hiring programs.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored quality assurance engineer jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
