Which companies sponsor visas for speech language pathologists in California?
Large health systems including Kaiser Permanente, Dignity Health, Sutter Health, and Cedars-Sinai have sponsored H-1B visas for speech-language pathologists in California. Major school districts and county offices of education also sponsor SLPs through H-1B and sometimes J-1 pathways. University-affiliated medical centers such as UCSF Medical Center and UC Davis Health are additional sponsors with established immigration processes.
Which visa types are most common for speech language pathology roles in California?
The H-1B is the most common visa for speech-language pathologists in California because the role meets the specialty occupation requirement, typically requiring a master's degree in communication sciences and disorders. The J-1 exchange visitor visa is used at some academic medical centers and teaching hospitals. Internationally trained SLPs from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican citizens may be eligible for TN status under USMCA.
Which cities in California have the most speech language pathology sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles and the surrounding metro area consistently generate the highest volume of SLP sponsorship openings, driven by its large hospital networks and one of the largest school district systems in the country. San Francisco and San Jose see strong demand from academic medical centers and technology-sector employee health programs. San Diego and Sacramento also have active hiring, with VA medical centers, regional health systems, and school districts all participating.
How to find speech language pathology visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to roles where employers have a documented history of visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to identify speech-language pathology openings in California without sifting through positions that won't support international candidates. You can search by role and state to surface current openings at health systems, school districts, and rehabilitation centers across the state that have sponsored SLPs before.
Are there any California-specific considerations for SLPs seeking visa sponsorship?
California requires SLPs to hold a license from the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board, and employers must account for licensure timelines when sponsoring international candidates. The state's large Spanish-speaking population means bilingual SLPs often attract stronger interest from school districts and healthcare employers. California's prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B are also set to reflect the state's higher cost-of-living areas, which employers factor into sponsorship decisions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored speech language pathology jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
