Which companies sponsor visas for tax managers in California?
The Big Four accounting firms (Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG) are among the most consistent sponsors for tax managers in California, with offices across San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Jose. Large technology companies including Apple, Google, Meta, and Salesforce also sponsor tax managers in-house. Regional accounting firms and multinational corporations with California headquarters occasionally sponsor as well, though less frequently.
Which visa types are most common for tax manager roles in California?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for tax managers in California, as the role typically requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or taxation, satisfying the specialty occupation standard. Candidates with a master's degree in taxation may be eligible for the H-1B advanced degree exemption. Australian citizens may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican nationals should look into the TN visa under the USMCA.
Which cities in California have the most tax manager sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and San Jose account for the largest share of sponsored tax manager roles in California, driven by the density of technology companies and Big Four offices in the Bay Area. Los Angeles is the second major hub, particularly for entertainment, media, and real estate tax practices. San Diego has a smaller but active market, supported by life sciences companies and regional accounting firms.
How to find tax manager visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter directly for tax manager roles in California to see employers actively hiring sponsored candidates. Because sponsorship availability is not always stated in standard job postings, using a platform like Migrate Mate that surfaces sponsoring employers saves significant time in your search.
Are there any California-specific considerations for tax managers seeking visa sponsorship?
California's state income tax system is one of the most complex in the U.S., so employers often look for candidates with specific experience in California tax compliance and apportionment rules. The Department of Labor prevailing wage determination for tax managers in the Bay Area and Los Angeles reflects the high cost of living in those metro areas. Candidates with a CPA license or Enrolled Agent credential, or who are actively pursuing one, are generally more competitive for sponsored positions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored tax manager jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
