JOB DESCRIPTION
The Tax Manager will be responsible for the preparation and review of business and personal tax returns, tax research, assisting with tax planning and supervising the work of staff accountants. You will report to the Tax Director and work closely with the firm's partners, other members of the tax team, and directly with clients to ensure that tax services are provided efficiently and effectively. The successful candidate will be a Certified Public Accountant with experience managing multiple client engagements and resources with a track record of delivering an outstanding client experience. The candidate will have significant expertise reviewing partnership, s-corporation, c-corporation and individual tax returns, performing tax research and implementing tax planning opportunities.
Job Responsibilities
- Review client-provided financials and make necessary adjustments for tax preparation and accurate reporting
- Lead more complex projects, including tax compliance for individual, partnership, s-corporation and c-corporation clients as well as transactional tax compliance work and other problem solving tasks on an ad hoc basis
- Review tax return work-papers and adjusting entries on business returns
- Research tax laws and regulations to ensure that clients are compliant
- Assist with the development and implementation of tax planning strategies for clients, including tax projections, tax planning, and transaction planning
- Communicate with clients to gather information necessary for tax return preparation, respond to tax-related questions and provide updates on tax filings
- Lead training programs to develop the tax team’s technical tax knowledge and skills as well as proficiency in using the firm’s tax-related application
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients to understand their unique tax needs and provide exceptional service
- Work with the firm's accounting team to ensure that tax services are integrated with accounting and financial reporting services
- Ensure that tax services are provided efficiently and effectively, and all deadlines are met
- Assist the Tax Director in managing the overall tax function as required

Qualifications
- 4-year degree in Accounting or commensurate experience
- CPA license
- 5+ years tax experience with a public accounting firm
- Prior experience supervising work and staff
- Comfortable working independently and in a team environment
- Strong verbal and written communications skills; comfortable communicating directly with clients and team members at all levels
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, accuracy and attention to detail
- Possess and maintain a thorough understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations
- Stay up-to-date on changes to tax laws and regulations and communicate those changes to the firm's accounting team and clients as needed
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Prior experience with leading tax tools including CCH Axcess (or Prosystems), Thomson Reuters Financial Projector, CCH Intelliconnect or other tax planning software is preferred
- Deep subject matter expertise in the areas of pass through entity and individual income tax; good working knowledge of C-corporations, estates, and trusts
