Overview
Intuit is seeking highly motivated individuals to join our dynamic team as dedicated year-round TurboTax Local Service Experts in one of our new TurboTax locations across the United States. This unique opportunity combines tax expertise, entrepreneurial spirit, and community engagement to help customers navigate their tax needs. As a TurboTax - Local Service Expert, you will serve as a trusted advisor, empowering customers to achieve positive financial outcomes while supporting Intuit’s mission of “Powering Prosperity Around the World.”
About the Role: In this role, you will work on-site from a TurboTax location as part of a collaborative team of financial experts, serving in-person and virtual customers who use Intuit TurboTax products. Your primary focus will be full-service tax return preparation, providing expert tax advice, calculations, and software support, but your responsibility extends beyond that. You will be the connective tissue between your customers and a broader team of specialists covering business tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, financial planning, and advisory services. This is not a hand-off model. You will sit in the same customer meetings, absorb the same context, and build a shared understanding of each customer's complete financial picture, then work in lock-step with the right experts to deliver a seamless, end-to-end Intuit experience.
Your ability to understand each customer's unique situation and connect with them on a personal level is critical. Taxes can be stressful, and your presence as a trusted, knowledgeable guide makes all the difference whether you're helping with a straightforward W-2 filing, navigating a major life event like marriage, a new child, or elder care, or tackling more complex scenarios involving business income, investments, or amendments.
Additionally, you will play a key role in growing TurboTax’s client base within the local community, attracting new clients, establishing long-term relationships, and driving customer loyalty. You will leverage TurboTax marketing support and software to empower you in building a thriving business that fosters prosperity for both you and your community.
This role is nonexempt and requires onsite presence at a TurboTax location in the United States.
What You’ll Do:
-
Provide Tax Expertise: Give hands-on tax advice and complete preparation services for TurboTax clients, handling simple to complex tax situations (e.g., personal and business income, deductions optimization, amendments). Facilitate discovery sessions and tax reviews to uncover deductions, minimize tax liabilities, maximize refunds, and provide future tax planning advice. Utilize resources such as government websites, professional tools, and team expertise to deliver accurate tax solutions in personalized everyday language.
-
Be a Proactive Community Ambassador: Embody a “community ambassador” and “business owner” mindset to actively build and grow a new local customer base for TurboTax. As a primary driver of local growth, you will own your market — identifying and pursuing prospects through targeted outreach, grass-roots marketing initiatives, referral networks, and community partnerships. Serve as the local face of TurboTax, converting new prospects into loyal, long-term clients. Organize and lead local events such as financial literacy workshops, community pop-ups, and networking gatherings with the support of TurboTax marketing tools and resources, to create consistent opportunities for customer engagement and brand awareness.
-
Champion the Full Intuit Ecosystem: Act as a trusted guide for every client by developing a deep understanding of their complete financial picture and connecting them with the Intuit solutions best positioned to move them forward. As you build relationships through tax engagements and collaborative client meetings, identify opportunities to introduce clients to complementary services such as bookkeeping, payroll, financial planning, or Credit Karma that meaningfully address their needs. Your role is not simply to deliver a service, but to ensure every client leaves with a clearer path and the full weight of Intuit's resources behind them for year-round support.
-
Build Relationships: Connect with people, demonstrate understanding and sensitivity to their financial concerns and build the long-term trust that turns a one-time transaction into a loyal, multi-year relationship.
-
Deliver a Best in Class Customer Experience: Create an exceptional customer experience, professionalism, and genuine interest in helping clients achieve their financial goals (e.g., saving for retirement, college funds, weddings, or vacations). Interact with customers both in-person and through Intuit’s state-of-the-art video communication tools. Address client inquiries while helping them overcome tax-related challenges.
What You Get: As a TurboTax - Local Service Expert, you’ll receive access to exceptional company benefits and resources, including:
- 401(k) Savings Plan with company matching
- Paid sick time
- Employee Stock Purchase Plan
- E&O Insurance provided by Intuit

- Discounts on Intuit products including a free copy of TurboTax

Which companies in Maryland sponsor visas for tax managers?
Large employers with active visa sponsorship histories for tax managers in Maryland include defense and government contractors such as Leidos, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Lockheed Martin, as well as major healthcare systems and financial services firms concentrated in the Baltimore and Bethesda areas. Multinational corporations with regional offices in Montgomery County and the Baltimore-Washington corridor also file H-1B petitions for senior tax roles with some regularity.
What visa types are most common for tax manager roles in Maryland?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for tax managers in Maryland, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at minimum a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or taxation. Candidates already holding L-1B or TN visa status through a transferring employer may also work in Maryland in this capacity. Some candidates with advanced credentials pursue O-1A classification, though that pathway requires demonstrated extraordinary achievement in the field.
Which Maryland cities have the most tax manager sponsorship opportunities?
Bethesda and Rockville in Montgomery County account for a significant share of Maryland's tax manager sponsorship activity, driven by the dense concentration of government contractors and professional services firms. Baltimore is the other primary hub, with demand coming from healthcare systems, regional banks, and accounting firms. Annapolis and Columbia see smaller but consistent hiring from financial and technology employers located along the Route 1 and I-95 corridors.
How to find tax manager visa sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for tax manager roles in Maryland without sorting through positions that don't support work authorization. You can narrow results by location, including Baltimore, Bethesda, and Rockville, to focus on employers actively hiring sponsored candidates. Migrate Mate's job board is built for international professionals, so the listings surface companies with a demonstrated track record of sponsoring tax and finance roles.
Are there any Maryland-specific factors that affect tax manager sponsorship?
Maryland's proximity to Washington D.C. means a large portion of its tax manager roles sit within government contracting firms that must comply with security clearance requirements, which can complicate or delay sponsorship for some international candidates. Additionally, employers in Maryland must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements tied to the specific metro area when filing an H-1B Labor Condition Application, and the Baltimore and Washington metropolitan areas each carry distinct wage determinations that affect offer structuring.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored tax manager jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
