Which companies sponsor visas for construction project engineers in Colorado?
General contractors with a significant Colorado presence are the most consistent sponsors for construction project engineers. Mortenson, Hensel Phelps, and Kiewit all have major Colorado operations and documented H-1B sponsorship histories. Large engineering firms like AECOM and Jacobs also sponsor for hybrid engineering-construction management roles. Sponsorship activity tends to follow project pipelines, so companies with active bids on large infrastructure or commercial builds are the most likely candidates.
Which visa types are most common for construction project engineer roles in Colorado?
The H-1B is the most common visa for construction project engineers in Colorado, provided the role requires a bachelor's degree in civil, structural, or construction engineering. The O-1A is an option for engineers with demonstrated exceptional achievement, though it requires substantial documentation. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles. E-3 applies to Australian citizens. Each category has distinct employer filing requirements and timelines.
Which cities in Colorado have the most construction project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Denver accounts for the largest share of construction project engineer sponsorship activity in Colorado, driven by commercial development, transit expansion, and data center construction. Colorado Springs is a secondary hub with defense-adjacent and infrastructure projects. The Boulder-to-Fort Collins corridor along the Front Range also generates demand, particularly for engineers supporting energy, utilities, and campus construction projects for higher education institutions.
How to find construction project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Colorado?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search construction project engineer roles in Colorado without manually screening out employers who don't sponsor. The platform aggregates openings from contractors and engineering firms active in the Colorado market. Filtering by role and state on Migrate Mate narrows results to positions where employers have indicated willingness to support work authorization, saving significant research time.
Are there any Colorado-specific considerations for construction project engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Colorado follows federal prevailing wage requirements under Department of Labor rules, so H-1B employers must certify that offered wages meet the prevailing rate for the specific role and county. Colorado's active university pipeline, including graduates from the University of Colorado and Colorado State University, means employer recruiting networks are established domestically, which can make international sponsorship more selective. Engineers with licensed PE credentials or progress toward licensure tend to be more competitive with Colorado sponsors.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored construction project engineer jobs in Colorado?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
