Which companies sponsor visas for construction project engineers in New Jersey?
Large engineering and construction firms with a consistent New Jersey presence include AECOM, WSP USA, Turner Construction, Skanska, and Jacobs Engineering. These companies have established HR and legal infrastructure to support H-1B visa and other work visa petitions. Mid-size general contractors working on NJ Transit and Port Authority projects have also sponsored project engineer roles, though sponsorship capacity varies significantly by firm size and project pipeline.
Which visa types are most common for construction project engineer roles in New Jersey?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for construction project engineers in New Jersey, given that the role typically requires a bachelor's degree in civil or construction engineering. Some candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship pursue TN visa status under the engineer category. EB-3 and EB-2 immigrant visa petitions are also filed by larger firms sponsoring engineers for permanent residence after initial nonimmigrant entry.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most construction project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Newark, Jersey City, and Parsippany-Troy Hills see the highest concentration of construction project engineer openings tied to visa sponsorship. Newark benefits from ongoing airport expansion and transit-oriented development. Jersey City hosts major commercial and mixed-use projects near the Hudson waterfront. Parsippany serves as a regional office hub for several national engineering firms that staff project engineers across statewide contracts.
How to find construction project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to identify construction project engineer openings in New Jersey without sorting through roles that don't sponsor. You can search by role and state to surface positions from firms actively petitioning for engineers. This is particularly useful for narrowing down which New Jersey contractors and engineering consultancies are currently hiring internationally.
Are there any New Jersey-specific considerations for construction project engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
New Jersey's Department of Labor sets prevailing wage requirements that employers must meet when filing Labor Condition Applications for H-1B workers, and these figures are benchmarked to the Newark-Jersey City-White Plains metropolitan area for most roles. New Jersey also has active public works licensing requirements, so internationally trained engineers should verify whether their credentials align with state registration pathways while their sponsorship is being processed.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored construction project engineer jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
