Which visa types are most common for mental health counseling roles in Colorado?
The H-1B is the most common visa for licensed mental health counselors in Colorado, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a master's degree in counseling, psychology, or a related field. Some nonprofit and government-affiliated employers, including federally qualified health centers, may also be eligible to sponsor J-1 or EB-3 visas depending on the position and organization type.
Which companies sponsor visas for mental health counseling roles in Colorado?
UCHealth, Denver Health, SCL Health (now Intermountain Health), and Centura Health have sponsored mental health professionals in Colorado. Community mental health centers such as Mental Health Center of Denver and Clinica Family Health, which operate as nonprofits or FQHCs, are also known to sponsor international clinicians. Nonprofit status can reduce H-1B cap exposure, as these employers may qualify for cap-exempt filings.
Which cities in Colorado have the most mental health counseling sponsorship jobs?
Denver has the highest concentration of mental health counseling roles with visa sponsorship, driven by its large hospital systems and community mental health infrastructure. Colorado Springs is the second-largest market, with Fort Collins, Boulder, and Aurora also showing consistent demand. Rural areas and mountain communities often face shortages, though sponsorship infrastructure at smaller clinics tends to be more limited.
How to find mental health counseling visa sponsorship jobs in Colorado?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters mental health counseling roles in Colorado by visa sponsorship eligibility, saving significant search time. Rather than sifting through general job boards, you can browse verified sponsoring employers in the state directly. Filtering by Colorado and mental health counseling on Migrate Mate surfaces positions at health systems, FQHCs, and behavioral health organizations actively hiring internationally.
Are there state-specific considerations for international mental health counselors seeking jobs in Colorado?
Colorado requires licensure through the Colorado State Board of Licensed Professional Counselor Examiners. International applicants must have their foreign credentials evaluated for equivalency before applying for licensure, which takes time and should be factored into any job search timeline. Some employers will initiate sponsorship only after licensure is confirmed, so starting the credential evaluation process early is important for international candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mental health counseling jobs in Colorado?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
