Under general supervision of a Process Engineer, the intern will work in a variety of assignments to provide general support to the operations group. The intern’s assignments will make a positive contribution to BD as well as give the intern opportunities to gain “hands on” work experience with the intent of training the intern for the potential of starting a successful career after graduation.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide daily project or emergency support to engineering, operations, or maintenance departments.
- Work with production personnel to understand and improve operation of production equipment.
- Work with production maintenance to develop the ability to perform routine troubleshooting and repair of production equipment.
- Assist an engineering leader by completing technical tasks such as design and solid modeling, coordinating purchasing or assembly of components, and implementing improvements using standard validation processes.
- Act as an engineering representative for TPM teams. Intern will help the TPM team identify, isolate, and solve reoccurring production problems.
- Intern will learn validation principles through BD validation training and then apply them under the supervision of a project engineer.
- Act as a team leader for smaller engineering projects or short-term production support projects.
- Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures.
- Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures including RCRA Hazardous Waste regulations.
- Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
This position requires:
- Enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate engineering program, Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Must be able to work year-round. Expected to work full-time hours in the Summer and 15-20 hours during the school year.
- Must be able to commute to BD Canaan, CT office.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Students in their Sophomore or Junior year preferred.
- Preferred majors are Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Biomedical Engineering.
