Which companies sponsor visas for engineering interns in Indiana?
Several large Indiana-based manufacturers and technology firms have a track record of sponsoring engineering interns for work authorization. Cummins, Rolls-Royce, Eli Lilly, Salesforce, and Subaru of Indiana Automotive are among the employers that regularly hire engineering interns and have active sponsorship programs. Larger corporations with established HR and legal infrastructure are generally better positioned to support international candidates than smaller firms.
Which visa types are most common for engineering intern roles in Indiana?
Most international engineering interns in Indiana work under F-1 OPT or CPT, which allows students at accredited U.S. universities to gain practical training related to their field of study. Curricular Practical Training applies during enrollment, while Optional Practical Training is typically used after graduation. STEM OPT extensions are available for eligible graduates in engineering disciplines, providing up to 24 additional months of work authorization.
Which cities in Indiana have the most engineering intern sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis is Indiana's largest job market for engineering interns, anchored by life sciences, defense, and advanced manufacturing employers. Columbus draws significant interest due to Cummins' global headquarters and its concentration of engine and power technology roles. Fort Wayne has a strong industrial manufacturing base, while Lafayette benefits from proximity to Purdue University, which maintains close employer relationships with engineering-focused companies across the state.
How to find engineering intern visa sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship roles, including engineering intern positions in Indiana. You can filter by state and role type to surface employers actively open to sponsoring international candidates. Beyond Migrate Mate, Purdue University and Indiana University career centers maintain employer partnerships with major Indiana manufacturers that have sponsorship experience, making campus recruiting events a practical complement to your job search.
Are there state-specific considerations for engineering interns seeking visa sponsorship in Indiana?
Indiana's engineering internship market is heavily tied to manufacturing, automotive, and life sciences sectors, which means roles often require on-site work rather than remote arrangements. This matters for CPT and OPT candidates because the work must be directly related to your field of study. Purdue University's large engineering enrollment creates a competitive pipeline for these roles, so early applications and strong technical backgrounds are particularly important for international candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored engineering intern jobs in Indiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
