This role emphasizes AI-powered systems, agentic architectures, intelligent automation, and modern data platforms. The role owns end-to-end solution architecture for large-scale initiatives and shapes how data and software are designed, built, governed, and evolved across the enterprise.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, outcome-driven architect who operates across business, product, engineering, and executive leadership, balancing innovation, delivery speed, data integrity, and long-term platform health.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture Leadership and Strategy
- Own and evolve end-to-end solution architecture for highly complex, cross-domain initiatives encompassing application, integration, and data architecture.
- Provide technology leadership and architectural oversight to ensure adherence to enterprise architecture principles and standards while maximizing reuse of technology and data assets.
- Serve as a technical authority and trusted advisor to senior engineering, product, data, and business leaders.
- Lead architecture design reviews, identify systemic gaps and risks across systems and data flows, and drive pragmatic remediation.
Platform Modernization and Integration
- Lead modernization of distributed platforms spanning cloud-native and legacy environments.
- Define and enforce reference architectures for microservices, APIs, event-driven systems, and data platforms.
- Design integration architectures leveraging APIs, event streaming, and asynchronous messaging to decouple systems and enable resilience.
- Perform build versus buy evaluations using qualitative and quantitative analysis, delivering clear architectural recommendations.
Data Architecture and Governance
- Define and own data architecture strategies including domain-oriented data models, canonical data definitions, and system-of-record design.
- Architect scalable data platforms supporting operational reporting, analytics, AI, and downstream consumption.
- Establish patterns for data integration, data lineage, quality, observability, and governance.
- Partner with data engineering, analytics, security, and compliance teams to ensure data architectures meet privacy, regulatory, and audit requirements.
Agentic AI and Intelligent Automation
- Design and guide implementation of agent-based and agent-orchestrated architectures to support complex workflows and decision-making.
- Leverage LangGraph, agent development kits, and orchestration patterns to enable multi-step reasoning, tool-using agents, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
- Ensure AI systems are governed, observable, secure, and auditable by design.
- Partner with security, legal, and compliance teams to enable responsible AI adoption.
AI-Powered Development
- Champion AI-assisted software development practices including code generation, refactoring, test creation, impact analysis, and documentation automation.
- Establish architectural patterns that improve developer productivity without sacrificing quality, data integrity, or control.
Engineering Enablement and Governance
- Partner with development teams to remove architectural bottlenecks and accelerate delivery.
- Develop reference implementations and working patterns, providing hands-on guidance and coaching.
- Advise teams on performance, scalability, reliability, security, observability, and data architecture challenges.
- Define and uphold architecture and data standards while enabling team autonomy.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in enterprise application, integration, and data architecture.
- Strong expertise in Domain-Driven Design, microservices, APIs, event-driven systems, and data modeling.
- Hands-on experience with major public cloud platforms including Azure, AWS, and GCP.
- Proven experience integrating modern cloud platforms with legacy systems and enterprise data stores.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior engineers, data leaders, and executives without direct authority.
- Hands-on experience applying AI, Agentic AI, ML, or GenAI to automate workflows, analyze data, and assist development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing or implementing agentic AI systems and orchestration-based workflows.
- Familiarity with LangGraph, agent development kits, or similar frameworks.
- Experience with modern data platforms, streaming data pipelines, and analytical data stores.
- Experience with DevSecOps, CI/CD, and platform engineering practices.

What should principal software engineers know about the Connecticut job market before pursuing sponsorship?

University pipelines from Yale and the University of Connecticut also contribute international engineering talent to the state.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored principal software engineer jobs in Connecticut?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
