Which companies sponsor visas for interns in Delaware?
Delaware's largest intern visa sponsors are concentrated in financial services, chemicals, and life sciences. JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and Capital One have Wilmington offices with established intern programs. Chemours and W.L. Gore sponsor interns in research and engineering roles. Legal and consulting firms in Wilmington's corporate hub also participate, though sponsorship practices vary by program and year.
Which visa types are most common for intern roles in Delaware?
Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is the most common authorization for international students interning in Delaware, as it requires no employer petition and is processed through the student's university. Optional Practical Training (OPT) covers post-graduation internships. J-1 exchange visitor status is used for some structured summer programs. H-1B sponsorship for internships is rare and typically limited to research roles at universities or nonprofit institutions.
Which cities in Delaware have the most intern sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington accounts for the majority of sponsored intern opportunities in Delaware, driven by its concentration of financial institutions, corporate headquarters, and law firms. Newark, home to the University of Delaware, has a secondary cluster of research and engineering internships, particularly with companies maintaining university partnerships. Dover sees limited intern sponsorship activity, mostly in government-adjacent or nonprofit roles.
How to find intern visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate filters intern roles in Delaware specifically by visa sponsorship availability, which saves significant time compared to reviewing general job listings. Search Migrate Mate for intern positions in Wilmington and Newark, filtering by industry if you're targeting finance, chemicals, or life sciences. Because Delaware's intern market is smaller than major metro areas, setting up alerts ensures you see new postings quickly.
Are there state-specific considerations for sponsored interns in Delaware?
Delaware's incorporation-friendly environment means many Fortune 500 legal entities are registered here, but actual intern headcount is concentrated in Wilmington offices rather than spread statewide. International students at the University of Delaware should confirm CPT eligibility with their DSO before accepting offers, as credit-bearing requirements differ by program. Delaware has no state-level intern sponsorship incentives, so authorization depends entirely on federal visa category rules.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored intern jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
