Which companies sponsor visas for interns in Texas?
Large multinationals with significant Texas footprints are the most consistent intern sponsors. In Houston, energy companies like ExxonMobil, Chevron Phillips Chemical, and Shell sponsor international interns. In Austin, Dell Technologies, Apple, and Oracle have active intern programs. In Dallas-Fort Worth, AT&T, American Airlines, and major financial institutions regularly hire international interns. Smaller firms and startups sponsor far less frequently.
Which visa types are most common for intern roles in Texas?
Most international interns in Texas work under F-1 OPT or CPT authorization, which allows students enrolled at U.S. universities to work without requiring the employer to file a separate petition. Some interns transition to H-1B visa sponsorship after converting to full-time roles. J-1 visa exchange visitor visas are also used for structured internship programs, typically administered through a designated program sponsor.
Which cities in Texas have the most intern sponsorship jobs?
Austin leads for tech internships, driven by the dense concentration of software and semiconductor companies along the Route 1 corridor. Houston is the top market for engineering and energy interns, anchored by the petrochemical industry and the Texas Medical Center. Dallas-Fort Worth offers the broadest mix across finance, logistics, and corporate functions. San Antonio has a smaller but growing tech and cybersecurity intern market.
How to find intern visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters intern roles in Texas that include visa sponsorship. Rather than sorting through thousands of generic postings, you can search by role type and state to surface employers who have actively sponsored international workers. This is particularly useful for intern roles in Austin, Houston, and Dallas where sponsorship availability varies significantly by company and industry.
Are there state-specific considerations for international interns in Texas?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects take-home pay calculations for interns but does not change federal visa or work authorization requirements. Universities like UT Austin, Rice University, and Texas A&M have large international student populations and active CPT and OPT pipelines, making Texas employers more familiar with F-1 work authorization than employers in states with smaller international student communities. Always confirm authorization requirements with your university's international office.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored intern jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
