Which companies sponsor visas for interns in Missouri?
Boeing's defense and aerospace operations in St. Louis, Edward Jones and Centene Corporation in Clayton, Oracle Health (formerly Cerner) in Kansas City, and Anheuser-Busch InBev in St. Louis are among the most active intern sponsors in Missouri. Large healthcare systems like SSM Health and BJC HealthCare also run internship programs that have supported visa sponsorship for eligible candidates in technical and research roles.
Which visa types are most common for intern roles in Missouri?
F-1 OPT and CPT are the most common work authorizations for interns in Missouri, allowing international students enrolled at Missouri universities to work without requiring employer-filed petitions. For post-graduation internships, F-1 OPT provides up to 12 months of work authorization, extendable to 36 months for STEM fields. Some structured programs at larger employers may lead to H-1B visa sponsorship after the internship converts to a full-time role.
Which cities in Missouri have the most intern sponsorship jobs?
St. Louis and Kansas City account for the large majority of intern sponsorship opportunities in Missouri. St. Louis is strongest in aerospace, financial services, and life sciences, anchored by employers like Boeing and Washington University. Kansas City has a growing technology and healthcare sector, with Oracle Health and major regional banks driving intern hiring. Columbia also sees intern activity tied to the University of Missouri's research and technology programs.
How to find intern visa sponsorship jobs in Missouri?
Migrate Mate filters intern job listings in Missouri specifically by visa sponsorship availability, saving you from sorting through postings that don't apply to international candidates. Search by city or industry to find roles in St. Louis aerospace, Kansas City technology, or statewide healthcare. Many Missouri employers post structured internship programs on Migrate Mate that explicitly note CPT, OPT, or H-1B sponsorship eligibility for qualifying candidates.
Are there state-specific factors that affect intern sponsorship in Missouri?
Missouri's strong university pipeline, including Washington University in St. Louis, University of Missouri, and Missouri University of Science and Technology, creates direct pathways between campus recruiting and sponsored internships at local employers. Employers in STEM-heavy fields benefit from STEM OPT's 36-month extension, making Missouri interns in engineering, computer science, and life sciences particularly attractive to sponsors who want time to evaluate candidates before committing to H-1B petitions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored intern jobs in Missouri?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
