INTRODUCTION
Air Liquide is Hiring for a Research Engineer - Newark, DE.
How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?
A Research Engineer is expected to operate at the cutting edge of our technology, driving the development of first-of-their-kind prototypes and products. This role exists to bridge the gap between early-stage R&D innovations and real-world customer pilot deployments. The successful candidate will be a driven self-starter with a rigorous approach to problem-solving, capable of seamlessly integrating mechanical design, electrical circuitry, and software into fully functional, industrial-grade systems. Ultimately, this role accelerates our time-to-market; true success for this position is defined as validating these prototypes in the field, independently navigating technical roadblocks, and executing a seamless hand-off to our internal engineering and operations teams for full-scale commercialization and lifecycle management.
YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-
System Design and Integration: Lead the end-to-end design of full prototype systems in a logical and systematic manner. Integrate mechanical components, electrical circuits, and software to create first of their kind prototypes for pilot.
-
Customer Pilot Deployment & Tech Transfer: Deploy and validate prototypes directly at customer pilot sites in a professional and technical capacity. While you will champion the pilot phase, your objective is to package the technical solution, documentation, and operational parameters for a hand-off to the business-led engineering and operations teams who will take over the product.
-
Technical Problem Solving: Diagnose complex system failures during the prototyping phase to maintain project momentum. Employ strong problem-solving skills to engineer immediate, effective solutions without shying away from necessary design pivots.
-
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with R&D scientists, engineering sales, strategy teams, and critically, internal operations, to align the prototype with market demands and internal manufacturing capabilities. Ensure clear communication across all business units.
-
Project Organization: Organize prototyping schedules, resource allocations, and technical documentation efficiently. This flexible approach ensures pilot deployments remain on track and within scope until the official operational hand-off is complete.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
-
Master or Bachelor in Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering.
-
Specialized Knowledge: Deep understanding of full-system architecture and taking concepts from the lab, through pilot.
-
Skills: Computer Aided Design (CAD), 3D Printing, General assembly and use of machine tools, Software experience (C++, Python, Others), Exceptionally strong organizational skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
-
At least 3 years of experience; Proven track record in rapid prototyping, equipment design, system integration, and technology transfer to manufacturing/operations.
-
Strong commercial and business acumen to understand how technical solutions integrate into customer operations and our own internal supply chain.
-
Ability to translate highly complex technical engineering concepts into straightforward standard operating procedures for the broader business.

Which companies sponsor visas for mechanical technicians in Delaware?
Delaware's chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing sector drives most mechanical technician sponsorship activity. Companies like DuPont, Chemours, and AstraZeneca operate large facilities in the Wilmington area and have histories of sponsoring skilled technical workers. Smaller contract manufacturers and industrial maintenance firms in the New Castle County area also file H-1B visa and other work visa petitions for qualified mechanical technicians.
Which visa types are most common for mechanical technician roles in Delaware?
The H-1B visa is the most commonly used pathway for mechanical technicians in Delaware, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or technical field. Some employers also use the TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals. Roles that are primarily hands-on trade work without a degree requirement may not qualify for H-1B sponsorship, so job description details matter significantly.
Which cities in Delaware have the most mechanical technician sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington and the surrounding New Castle County area account for the largest share of mechanical technician sponsorship opportunities in Delaware, driven by the concentration of chemical processing and pharmaceutical facilities there. Dover, the state capital in Kent County, also has manufacturing and government contractor activity that generates technical hiring. Newark, home to the University of Delaware, sees some employer recruitment tied to engineering graduates nearby.
How to find mechanical technician visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters mechanical technician roles in Delaware by visa sponsorship availability, saving considerable time compared to sorting through general job listings. Since Delaware's sponsoring employers are concentrated in chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and industrial manufacturing, using Migrate Mate to narrow results to those industries in Wilmington and New Castle County is an efficient starting point for your search.
Are there any Delaware-specific considerations for mechanical technicians seeking visa sponsorship?
Delaware's small geographic size means the job market is tightly clustered, and most sponsoring employers are in established industrial sectors rather than emerging tech. Employers filing H-1B petitions must pay prevailing wages as determined by the Department of Labor for the specific occupation and region. Mechanical technicians with degrees in mechanical engineering technology or a related field are better positioned for roles that meet the specialty occupation standard required for H-1B eligibility.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mechanical technician jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
