Which companies sponsor visas for registered nurses in Delaware?
ChristianaCare, Delaware's largest health system, has a consistent track record of sponsoring international registered nurses, particularly for roles at Christiana Hospital in Newark and Wilmington Hospital. Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover and Milford is another active employer. Smaller long-term care networks and staffing agencies operating in Delaware also file H-1B visa and EB-3 petitions for nursing roles, though sponsorship availability varies by facility and current staffing needs.
Which visa types are most common for registered nurse roles in Delaware?
The EB-3 immigrant visa is the most common pathway for internationally trained registered nurses in Delaware, as nursing is classified as a skilled worker occupation. The H-1B nonimmigrant visa is less frequently used for RN roles because registered nursing does not always meet the specialty occupation threshold, though some positions do qualify. Nurses from the Philippines, India, and other countries often enter through the EB-3 route, sometimes with concurrent H-1B or H-1A petition history.
How to find registered nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find registered nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware, as the platform filters specifically for roles where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness. Because Delaware's market is smaller than neighboring Pennsylvania or Maryland, filtering by role type and setting (acute care, ICU, med-surg) on Migrate Mate helps narrow results to facilities actively hiring internationally trained nurses rather than browsing general postings.
Which cities in Delaware have the most registered nurse sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington and Newark in New Castle County account for the largest share of registered nurse sponsorship opportunities in Delaware, driven by ChristianaCare's flagship hospitals. Dover, the state capital, is the next most active market through Bayhealth. Delaware is a small state, so nurses willing to work across county lines significantly expand their options, and proximity to Philadelphia's health systems can also be relevant for those on border-commuting arrangements.
Are there any state-specific considerations for internationally trained registered nurses pursuing sponsorship in Delaware?
Internationally trained registered nurses must obtain a Delaware RN license through the Delaware Board of Nursing, which requires passing the NCLEX-RN and submitting a credentials evaluation through a CGFNS-approved organization. Delaware participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact, meaning nurses already licensed in another compact state can practice in Delaware without a separate license. Employers sponsoring nurses under EB-3 must also meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements specific to the Wilmington or Dover labor market areas.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored registered nurse jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
