Which companies sponsor visas for registered nurses in South Dakota?
Sanford Health, the largest employer in the state, and Monument Health in Rapid City are the most active sponsors for registered nurses in South Dakota. Regional health systems like Avera Health also hire internationally trained nurses. Many sponsorships run through travel nursing agencies that hold direct H-1B or EB-3 sponsorship infrastructure, placing nurses at South Dakota facilities under staffing arrangements.
Which visa types are most common for registered nurse roles in South Dakota?
The EB-3 immigrant visa is the most common pathway for internationally trained registered nurses in South Dakota, as nursing meets the skilled worker classification. The H-1B is less frequently used for RN roles because nursing does not always satisfy the specialty occupation standard. Some employers use TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nurses, and VisaScreen certification from CGFNS is required for all foreign-educated nurses regardless of visa category.
Which cities in South Dakota have the most registered nurse sponsorship jobs?
Sioux Falls accounts for the largest concentration of registered nurse sponsorship opportunities in South Dakota, driven by Sanford Health's flagship campus and multiple Avera Health facilities. Rapid City is the second most active market, anchored by Monument Health. Aberdeen and Watertown see periodic openings, particularly in critical access hospitals that face persistent staffing shortages and are more open to sponsoring internationally trained nurses.
How to find registered nurse visa sponsorship jobs in South Dakota?
Migrate Mate aggregates registered nurse roles in South Dakota where employers have a documented history of visa sponsorship, letting you filter specifically to this state and role. Because South Dakota's sponsoring employers are concentrated among a few major health systems and staffing partners, searching Migrate Mate by state and job title gives you a focused list without sorting through postings from employers unlikely to sponsor international candidates.
Are there any state-specific considerations for registered nurses seeking visa sponsorship in South Dakota?
South Dakota issues its own nursing license through the South Dakota Board of Nursing, and internationally educated nurses must have their credentials evaluated before licensure. South Dakota participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact, so a compact license from another state transfers. The state's rural healthcare shortage designation in many counties strengthens EB-3 green card cases and can support J-1 waiver placements, which some hospitals use to bring foreign-trained physicians and nurses to underserved areas.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored registered nurse jobs in South Dakota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
