Which companies sponsor visas for registered nurses in Massachusetts?
The largest sponsors in Massachusetts include Mass General Brigham, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Children's Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and UMass Memorial Health. These health systems have established international recruitment programs and experience filing H-1B and EB-3 petitions for registered nurses. Community hospitals and long-term care networks also sponsor, though less frequently than major academic medical centers.
Which visa types are most common for registered nurse roles in Massachusetts?
The EB-3 immigrant visa is the most common pathway for registered nurses in Massachusetts, as nursing is classified as a skilled worker occupation eligible for employer-sponsored green cards. The H-1B is less frequently used for nursing roles because staff RN positions often don't meet the specialty occupation threshold, though advanced practice roles like nurse practitioners may qualify. Some nurses also enter on TN visas if they hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most registered nurse sponsorship jobs?
Boston concentrates the highest volume of sponsored registered nurse positions, driven by its dense cluster of academic medical centers and teaching hospitals in the Longwood Medical Area. Worcester is the second-largest market, anchored by UMass Memorial Medical Center and Saint Vincent Hospital. Springfield, Lowell, and New Bedford also generate sponsorship demand, particularly in community health and long-term care settings serving underserved populations.
How to find registered nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to browse registered nurse openings in Massachusetts without sorting through positions that don't sponsor. You can search by role and state to surface health systems and hospitals actively recruiting international nurses. Because sponsorship status isn't always listed on general job boards, using a platform like Migrate Mate that curates sponsoring employers saves significant time in your search.
Are there any state-specific considerations for registered nurses seeking sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts requires all registered nurses to hold a valid license issued by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. International nurses typically need to pass the NCLEX-RN and may need a credentials evaluation through an organization like CGFNS before licensure. Massachusetts participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact as of 2024, which can simplify multi-state practice. Employers in academic medical centers often prefer candidates with BSN degrees given the state's strong emphasis on Magnet-designated facilities.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored registered nurse jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
