Which companies sponsor visas for registered nurses in Rhode Island?
The largest sponsors in Rhode Island are Lifespan Health System, which operates Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital, and Care New England, which includes Women and Infants Hospital and Kent Hospital. VA Medical Center Providence also hires internationally. Larger academic medical centers and health systems in the state are more likely to have established immigration processes than smaller community hospitals or outpatient clinics.
Which visa types are most common for registered nurse roles in Rhode Island?
The EB-3 immigrant visa is the most common pathway for registered nurses in Rhode Island, as nursing is classified as a skilled worker occupation eligible for employment-based green card sponsorship. Some nurses enter on an H-1B nonimmigrant visa, though nursing roles require careful documentation showing the position meets specialty occupation standards. Many internationally trained nurses also arrive through VisaScreen certification, which is required before a visa can be issued.
How to find registered nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Rhode Island?
Migrate Mate filters registered nurse job postings in Rhode Island to surface roles from employers who have a documented history of visa sponsorship. Rather than sorting through hundreds of general listings, you can use Migrate Mate to focus specifically on Rhode Island health systems and hospitals that have sponsored international nurses before, saving time during what can be a time-sensitive job search.
Which cities in Rhode Island have the most registered nurse sponsorship jobs?
Providence accounts for the highest concentration of sponsored registered nurse roles in Rhode Island, given its cluster of major hospitals including Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, and Women and Infants Hospital. Pawtucket, where Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island operates, and Warwick, home to Kent Hospital, also generate consistent hiring activity. Providence's status as the state's academic and medical hub makes it the primary target for international nurses entering the market.
Are there any state-specific considerations for registered nurses seeking sponsorship in Rhode Island?
Rhode Island requires registered nurses to hold an active RN license from the Rhode Island Board of Nurse Registration and Nursing Education before practicing. Internationally trained nurses typically need to pass the NCLEX-RN exam and have their foreign credentials evaluated. Rhode Island participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact, which can simplify multistate practice later. Employers sponsoring EB-3 petitions must complete a PERM labor market test, meaning the hiring timeline from offer to green card approval is often measured in years rather than months.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored registered nurse jobs in Rhode Island?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
