Which companies sponsor visas for registered nurses in Oregon?
The largest sponsors of registered nurses in Oregon are major health systems: OHSU Health (Oregon Health and Science University), Providence Health and Services, Legacy Health, PeaceHealth, and Adventist Health. These organizations have established immigration support processes and regularly file H-1B and EB-3 petitions for qualifying RN roles. Smaller community hospitals and long-term care facilities also sponsor, though less consistently.
Which visa types are most common for registered nurse roles in Oregon?
Registered nurses in Oregon most commonly come through the EB-3 immigrant visa (employment-based green card), which requires PERM labor certification and employer sponsorship. The H-1B is less common for RN roles because nursing does not always meet the specialty occupation threshold, though certain advanced practice or specialized nursing positions may qualify. Some nurses also enter on TN visas if they are Canadian or Mexican citizens.
Which cities in Oregon have the most registered nurse sponsorship jobs?
Portland is by far the strongest market, home to OHSU, Legacy Health, and Providence's regional headquarters. Salem, as the state capital, has a concentration of hospital and public health employers including Salem Health. Eugene and Bend are growing markets driven by PeaceHealth and St. Charles Health System respectively. Rural and coastal Oregon communities also see demand but sponsorship activity is more limited outside the metro areas.
How to find registered nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate lets you filter registered nurse jobs specifically by visa sponsorship and state, making it straightforward to identify Oregon employers actively hiring international RNs. Because sponsorship willingness varies significantly between health systems, filtering by confirmed sponsors saves considerable time. Migrate Mate surfaces roles from large academic medical centers and regional networks across Portland, Salem, and Eugene that have a track record of supporting international nursing candidates.
Are there state-specific considerations for international registered nurses pursuing sponsorship in Oregon?
Oregon requires RNs to hold an active Oregon State Board of Nursing license before practicing, regardless of visa status. International nurses must also have their credentials evaluated through a recognized body such as CGFNS and meet English language proficiency requirements. OHSU's academic medical center environment creates a pipeline for internationally trained nurses, particularly those with specialized clinical backgrounds. Processing timelines for both licensure and immigration sponsorship should be factored into any job search timeline.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored registered nurse jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
