Which companies sponsor visas for registered nurses in Illinois?
The largest sponsors of registered nurses in Illinois include Northwestern Medicine, Rush University Medical Center, Advocate Aurora Health, University of Chicago Medicine, and Loyola University Medical Center. Staffing agencies with Illinois hospital contracts also file sponsorship petitions on behalf of nurses placed at facilities across the state. Sponsorship activity is heaviest among Chicagoland health systems, though regional hospitals in Peoria and Rockford also participate.
Which visa types are most common for registered nurse roles in Illinois?
The EB-3 immigrant visa is the most common pathway for internationally trained registered nurses in Illinois, as nursing qualifies as a skilled worker role under that category. During the EB-3 process, many nurses enter or maintain status on an H-1B visa if the role meets specialty occupation requirements, or on a TN visa if they are Canadian or Mexican citizens. Some facilities also sponsor through the EB-2 category for nurses with advanced degrees.
Which cities in Illinois have the most registered nurse sponsorship jobs?
Chicago and its suburbs account for the majority of registered nurse sponsorship jobs in Illinois, driven by the high concentration of academic medical centers and large hospital networks in the metro area. Outside Chicago, Peoria (home to OSF HealthCare and UnityPoint Health), Rockford, and Springfield have consistent RN hiring activity. Rural critical access hospitals across the state also post sponsorship-eligible roles, particularly in specialties facing persistent shortages.
How to find registered nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter directly by state and role to see registered nurse positions in Illinois where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness. This saves significant time compared to sorting through general job listings where sponsorship eligibility is rarely stated upfront. Creating an account on Migrate Mate gives you access to the full Illinois RN sponsorship job feed.
Are there state-specific considerations for registered nurses seeking sponsorship in Illinois?
Illinois requires registered nurses to hold a valid Illinois RN license issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation before starting work, and foreign-trained nurses must pass the NCLEX-RN regardless of their home country credentials. Illinois is not a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) member state, meaning an RN license from another compact state does not automatically authorize practice in Illinois. Employers typically expect candidates to have NCLEX passage confirmed before extending a sponsorship offer.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored registered nurse jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
