Which companies sponsor visas for registered nurses in Kentucky?
The largest visa-sponsoring employers for registered nurses in Kentucky include Norton Healthcare and Baptist Health in Louisville, UK HealthCare and CHI Saint Joseph Health in Lexington, and Appalachian Regional Healthcare, which operates multiple hospitals across eastern Kentucky. Staffing agencies that place traveling nurses with Kentucky facilities have also historically filed sponsorship petitions, particularly for permanent residence through the EB-3 category.
Which visa types are most common for registered nurse roles in Kentucky?
The EB-3 immigrant visa is the most common pathway for internationally trained registered nurses in Kentucky, typically paired with PERM labor certification filed by the sponsoring employer. The H-1B nonimmigrant visa applies to RN roles only when the position genuinely qualifies as a specialty occupation, which requires a specific nursing subspecialty and a bachelor's degree in nursing. Some nurses also enter on TN status if they hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship.
Which cities in Kentucky have the most registered nurse sponsorship jobs?
Louisville accounts for the largest share of registered nurse sponsorship activity in Kentucky, driven by Norton Healthcare, Baptist Health, and several regional hospital campuses. Lexington is the second-largest market, anchored by UK HealthCare and CHI Saint Joseph Health. Outside those two metros, Bowling Green, Owensboro, and communities in eastern Kentucky served by Appalachian Regional Healthcare generate meaningful demand, particularly in acute care and critical care specialties.
How to find registered nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Kentucky?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for internationally trained nurses and other foreign-national job seekers looking for visa sponsorship roles. You can filter by state and job title to see registered nurse positions in Kentucky from employers with a documented history of sponsoring work visas. This saves significant time compared to manually researching which Kentucky health systems are open to sponsorship. Creating an account on Migrate Mate lets you set up alerts as new Kentucky RN roles are posted.
Are there any Kentucky-specific considerations for internationally trained registered nurses pursuing sponsorship?
Registered nurses must obtain a Kentucky nursing license from the Kentucky Board of Nursing before starting work, and Kentucky participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact, meaning a multistate license from a compact state transfers. International graduates typically need CGFNS credential evaluation and must pass the NCLEX-RN. Rural hospitals in Appalachian Kentucky often have stronger sponsorship motivation due to persistent staffing shortages, making those facilities worth targeting alongside major Louisville and Lexington health systems.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored registered nurse jobs in Kentucky?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
