Which companies sponsor visas for registered nurses in Alaska?
The most active sponsors for registered nurses in Alaska include Providence Alaska Medical Center, Alaska Regional Hospital (part of HCA Healthcare), Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, and Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau. Tribal health organizations such as the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium also hire RNs and have sponsored work visas. Critical access hospitals in rural communities occasionally sponsor as well, though capacity varies by facility.
Which visa types are most common for registered nurse roles in Alaska?
The H-1B and EB-3 are the most common pathways for international registered nurses in Alaska. RN roles generally qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B, requiring at least a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The EB-3 employment-based green card is widely used for permanent placement, often paired with a PERM labor certification. Some nurses also enter on TN visas if they hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship and meet NCLEX licensing requirements.
How to find registered nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Alaska?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find registered nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Alaska, with listings filtered specifically for roles where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness. Given Alaska's geographic spread, it helps to filter by city and facility type, since sponsorship availability differs between large Anchorage hospitals and smaller rural facilities. Migrate Mate aggregates these roles so you can focus applications on employers already open to sponsoring international RNs.
Which cities in Alaska have the most registered nurse sponsorship jobs?
Anchorage accounts for the largest share of RN sponsorship opportunities in Alaska, home to the state's two major hospitals and several specialty clinics. Fairbanks and Juneau are secondary hubs with their own regional medical centers. More rural communities, including Bethel, Nome, and Kodiak, have persistent nursing shortages and occasionally sponsor international nurses, though these roles are less frequently advertised through standard channels.
Are there any Alaska-specific considerations for registered nurses seeking visa sponsorship?
Alaska's geographic isolation means employers often provide relocation support and housing assistance alongside sponsorship, which is worth confirming during the offer stage. RNs must hold an Alaska nursing license issued by the Alaska Board of Nursing, and Alaska is not part of the Nurse Licensure Compact, so a license from another compact state does not transfer automatically. NCLEX passage and credential evaluation through a recognized body like CGFNS are standard requirements for internationally trained nurses.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored registered nurse jobs in Alaska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
