Which companies sponsor visas for research scientists in Delaware?
Delaware's largest research scientist visa sponsors are concentrated in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and materials science. Corteva Agriscience, W.L. Gore & Associates, DuPont, and AstraZeneca have established histories of sponsoring H-1B visas for research roles. The Wilmington area hosts the densest concentration of these employers, and OFLC disclosure data consistently shows research scientist and senior scientist job titles among their sponsored positions.
Which visa types are most common for research scientist roles in Delaware?
The H-1B is the most common visa for research scientists in Delaware, given that roles requiring a master's or PhD in a specific scientific discipline typically qualify as specialty occupations. Researchers at universities or nonprofits may encounter J-1 exchange visitor visas for postdoctoral positions. Those with extraordinary ability in their field may also qualify for the O-1A, which has no annual lottery and no employer-size restriction.
Which cities in Delaware have the most research scientist sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington and its surrounding New Castle County suburbs account for the overwhelming majority of research scientist sponsorship opportunities in Delaware. This area hosts the state's pharmaceutical, chemical, and agricultural research corridors. Newark, home to the University of Delaware, also generates research scientist openings, particularly for postdoctoral and applied research roles tied to university-affiliated industry partnerships.
How to find research scientist visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate filters research scientist jobs specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search Delaware postings without manually vetting each employer. Because Delaware's research hiring is concentrated in a small number of large companies, filtering by employer history and role type on Migrate Mate helps identify which openings are genuinely open to H-1B or O-1 candidates rather than wading through listings that exclude international applicants.
Are there state-specific considerations for research scientists seeking sponsorship in Delaware?
Delaware's research sector is unusually concentrated in a few large multinational employers rather than spread across many mid-size companies, which means sponsorship availability tracks closely with hiring cycles at those specific firms. Prevailing wage requirements for research scientist roles are determined by the Wilmington metropolitan statistical area, and positions requiring a PhD tend to fall into higher wage tiers under Department of Labor guidelines. University of Delaware graduates also form a common pipeline into local industry research roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored research scientist jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
