Which companies sponsor visas for structural project engineers in Delaware?
Engineering and infrastructure consultancies are the most consistent sponsors in Delaware. Firms like AECOM, WSP, Jacobs, and Kimley-Horn have offices in the Wilmington area and a documented history of filing H-1B petitions for structural engineers. Delaware's state transportation agency and chemical industry players like Corteva also engage structural engineering consultants who occasionally sponsor international candidates.
Which visa types are most common for structural project engineer roles in Delaware?
The H-1B is the primary visa category for structural project engineers in Delaware, as the role typically requires at least a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering, satisfying the specialty occupation requirement. Canadian and Mexican engineers may qualify for TN status under the USMCA. Engineers with extraordinary achievement may pursue the O-1A, though this is less common in this field.
Which cities in Delaware have the most structural project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington is by far Delaware's primary market for structural project engineers, hosting the majority of the state's engineering consultancy offices and corporate headquarters. Newark, home to the University of Delaware, has a smaller but active engineering presence. Dover, the state capital, sees demand tied to government infrastructure and transportation projects managed through DelDOT.
How to find structural project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international engineers seeking sponsored roles and filters listings by both role and location, so you can search directly for structural project engineer positions in Delaware. The platform surfaces employers with a history of H-1B and other visa sponsorships, which saves significant research time compared to sorting through general postings where sponsorship availability is rarely disclosed upfront.
Are there any state-specific considerations for structural project engineers seeking sponsorship in Delaware?
Delaware's small geographic size means most sponsoring employers are concentrated in New Castle County, particularly Wilmington, so candidates should expect a limited but competitive local pool. The state's strong ties to the chemical, pharmaceutical, and infrastructure sectors can create demand for structural engineers with specialized facility or industrial design experience. Delaware does not have its own engineering licensure board distinct from NCEES, so PE reciprocity from other states applies straightforwardly.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural project engineer jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
