Which companies sponsor visas for structural project engineers in Pennsylvania?
Several large engineering and construction firms with significant Pennsylvania operations have sponsored structural project engineers for work visas. These include AECOM, Michael Baker International, Pennoni Associates, WSP USA, and Thornton Tomasetti. Infrastructure-focused public agencies and contractors working on PennDOT projects and transit authorities also appear in Department of Labor sponsorship records, though sponsorship decisions are made case by case and are never guaranteed.
Which visa types are most common for structural project engineer roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for structural project engineers in Pennsylvania, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering. Some candidates from Australia use the E-3 visa, while Canadian and Mexican engineers may qualify under the TN visa. Experienced engineers with exceptional records sometimes pursue the O-1A or EB-1A immigrant visa categories.
How to find structural project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to find structural project engineer roles in Pennsylvania without sifting through postings that won't support international candidates. You can search by role and state to surface openings at firms like Michael Baker International, AECOM, and Pennoni that have documented sponsorship histories. Narrowing by city further helps prioritize Philadelphia or Pittsburgh clusters where infrastructure project activity is highest.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most structural project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia and Pittsburgh account for the largest share of structural project engineer sponsorship activity in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia's concentration of transit, bridge, and commercial development projects draws firms with active international hiring. Pittsburgh's engineering sector, anchored by firms supporting bridge rehabilitation and industrial infrastructure, also generates consistent demand. Allentown and the Lehigh Valley represent a smaller but growing cluster tied to industrial and institutional construction.
Are there state-specific considerations for structural project engineers seeking sponsorship in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania's Professional Engineer licensure is required for engineers who stamp drawings on public projects, and employers often factor PE licensure timelines into hiring decisions for international candidates. PennDOT's large infrastructure pipeline, including ongoing bridge replacement programs, creates sustained structural engineering demand. Pennsylvania's universities, including Lehigh University, Penn State, and Carnegie Mellon, also produce a consistent pipeline of structural engineering graduates that hiring managers in the state are already familiar with sponsoring.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural project engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
