Which companies sponsor visas for structural project engineers in Michigan?
Engineering and infrastructure consultancies are the most consistent sponsors for structural project engineers in Michigan. Firms such as AECOM, Jacobs, WSP, Parsons, and Fishbeck have filed H-1B petitions for structural engineering roles in the state. MDOT-affiliated contractors and automotive facility engineering firms in the Detroit metro area also appear in federal LCA disclosure data for structural positions.
Which visa types are most common for structural project engineer roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for structural project engineers in Michigan, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in civil or structural engineering. Canadian and Mexican nationals may pursue the TN visa under the engineer category, which does not require a petition or lottery and can be processed at the border.
Which cities in Michigan have the most structural project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its surrounding metro area, including Troy, Southfield, and Auburn Hills, account for the largest concentration of structural project engineer roles tied to automotive facilities, bridge rehabilitation, and commercial construction. Grand Rapids is active in industrial and manufacturing facility engineering, while Lansing sees demand driven by state infrastructure contracts. Ann Arbor also produces hiring activity linked to university and research-adjacent projects.
How to find structural project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles with visa sponsorship, so you can search structural project engineer positions in Michigan without sifting through listings that exclude international candidates. The platform surfaces openings from engineering consultancies, infrastructure contractors, and industrial firms across Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Lansing. Filtering by state and role title on Migrate Mate gives you a targeted starting point for your Michigan job search.
Are there state-specific considerations for structural project engineers seeking sponsorship in Michigan?
Michigan's heavy investment in transportation infrastructure through MDOT and federal highway funding means structural engineers frequently work on public projects, which can affect prevailing wage determinations under the H-1B's LCA requirements. Employers must certify they are paying at least the prevailing wage for the role and location. Michigan also benefits from a strong engineering pipeline through the University of Michigan and Michigan State University, which means sponsors in this state are accustomed to hiring internationally trained engineers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural project engineer jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
