Which companies sponsor visas for structural project engineers in Tennessee?
Engineering and infrastructure firms with Tennessee offices account for most sponsorships. Jacobs, AECOM, Kimley-Horn, Burns & McDonnell, and WSP have all filed H-1B petitions for structural roles in Tennessee. State DOT contractors and industrial engineering firms supporting automotive and chemical manufacturing in the Nashville and Chattanooga corridors also sponsor structural engineers with specialized credentials.
Which visa types are most common for structural project engineer roles in Tennessee?
The H-1B is the most common visa for structural project engineers in Tennessee, as the role typically requires at least a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering. Candidates with a Professional Engineer license and project leadership experience may also qualify for the O-1A. Canadians and Mexicans can explore the TN visa under the civil engineer classification, which applies directly to structural project engineering work.
How to find structural project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Tennessee?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search for structural project engineer roles in Tennessee without sifting through positions that won't support work visas. The platform surfaces employers who have sponsored engineers in the past, which is particularly useful in Tennessee where sponsorship activity is concentrated in infrastructure, industrial, and transportation sectors rather than spread evenly across all firms.
Which cities in Tennessee have the most structural project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Nashville leads Tennessee for structural project engineer sponsorship activity, driven by rapid infrastructure development, transit projects, and commercial construction. Chattanooga follows closely due to its concentration of industrial facilities and proximity to major manufacturing operations. Memphis generates structural engineering demand through bridge and port infrastructure along the Mississippi River, while Knoxville benefits from University of Tennessee-affiliated construction and regional highway projects.
Are there state-specific factors structural project engineers should know before applying for jobs in Tennessee?
Tennessee requires Professional Engineer licensure through the Tennessee State Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners for project sign-off, so engineers on an H-1B who hold a PE license from another state will need reciprocal licensure. Tennessee has no state income tax on wages, which affects total compensation comparisons. The state's heavy investment in transportation and industrial construction means project engineers with bridge, highway, or industrial structural experience tend to be most competitive for sponsored roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural project engineer jobs in Tennessee?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
