Which companies sponsor visas for structural project engineers in Massachusetts?
Engineering consultancies with a strong Massachusetts presence, including WSP, AECOM, Thornton Tomasetti, and Stantec, have consistent H-1B visa sponsorship histories for structural roles. Boston-based firms focused on life sciences construction, transit infrastructure, and higher education projects tend to hire internationally at the project engineer level, where specialized structural analysis and design skills are in demand.
Which visa types are most common for structural project engineer roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the most common visa for structural project engineers in Massachusetts, as the role typically meets the specialty occupation standard requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in civil or structural engineering. Some candidates also enter through OPT or STEM OPT after graduating from Massachusetts engineering programs, which can provide time to secure H-1B sponsorship from an employer.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most structural project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge account for the largest concentration of structural project engineer openings, driven by ongoing development in the Seaport District, transit modernization projects, and the density of engineering firms near MIT and Harvard. Worcester and Springfield also have active infrastructure and institutional construction markets, with regional offices of national engineering firms sponsoring international engineers for project roles.
How to find structural project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search structural project engineer roles in Massachusetts without sorting through positions that do not sponsor. The platform surfaces openings from engineering consultancies and construction firms across Boston, Cambridge, and Worcester, making it easier to identify employers who have actively sponsored H-1B workers for structural engineering roles.
Are there any Massachusetts-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for structural project engineers?
Massachusetts has a large pipeline of international engineering graduates from MIT, Northeastern, and WPI, which means employers in the state are familiar with OPT, STEM OPT, and H-1B processes for structural roles. The state's concentration of life sciences and transit infrastructure projects creates sustained demand for structural project engineers, and firms working on publicly funded projects must comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements when filing H-1B petitions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural project engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
